hey Panzer, I am using a 9.6 battery with a Super Core Piston!

How much trigger time do you have on this setup?

yeah i think the cop shot himself seanm028.

The guy was not a cop, where are you getting this from???

We talked about this guy in a Concealed Carry class I was in in FL.  I think the Detective holding the class mentioned he was a Fed of some sort.

He did insert a round into his leg.

I agree with Hollywood, poopypants should have been using a holster.

Panzer fixed this with an 8.4 battery, stock spring, and a Deepfire Piston.

Classic Army recommends nothing above 8.4 volts because of the stress already generated by the gearbox.

Had feeling it was batt related. tx!

Troubleshooting / CA M249 Piston Keeps Breaking
« on: September 08, 2006, 12:54:48 PM »
I replaced the piston in my CA M249 with an aluminium one, after the large sector plate striking tooth (the first tooth) broke off on the plastic one.

After a very short time(a few seconds), the same thing happened to the AL one.

I'm using stock gears, 120 spring, and a AL/Teflon cylinder, 9.6V batt.

I realize the upgrades are placing _some_ extra stress on the piston, but I thought a metal piston would be up to the task.

It appears the sector gear is striking the piston tooth hard enough to snap it off.

Any suggestions?  I'm planning to return to the stock spring. Anyone else with this gun having problems?

Also FYI Bagger has a SAW so hopefully he will ba able to use it. But then again he may not want to lug it around for a day and a half. Thought i would mention it considering we are only allowed one SAW per squad.

I double posted [smilie=armata_pdt_04.gif]

I don't mind lugging it if the squad needs a gunner. [smilie=armata_pdt_11.gif]

well i am planning on getting the deepfire piston with the full metal teeth, i have been told and read on the internet that the stock piston with an above 8.4v battery will definately break, so im going with a deepfire piston and i havent decided what piston head i want to use yet, not a metal faced one for sure, im thinking perhalps the guarder polycarb with the bearings.

is it hard to take apart the gearbox? i dont have a ton of experiance with that, but it looks alot easier because you can take the main spring out first.

Piece of cake.  yes take out the spring first.  then nothing is really under much tension except the little spring for the anti reverse ratchet and the selector spring  by the trigger.

I can take more pics as I assemble mine if you like.

Hi SharmanAJUSMC,

I've had the exact problems you are describing regarding the piston.  You can view that in a thread here

I run an M120 spring, Systema Super TorqueUp motor, and 9.6V 3.8Ah Batteries.

I'm considering a stronger piston, but I have concerns that making the piston too strong creates a situation where the gears may fail instead of the piston.  I prefer to replace a failed piston(single part) vs having several gears fail.

Let me know your thoughts...

I'm hoping to find it in Super-Unobtainium, but so far it looks like another similar piston.

I think perhaps the piston is sacrificial to the gearset.  Its probably far less catastrophic to have the piston fail, than have the piston hold up, and the gears between it and the motor fail.

This is just a guess, based on how the gearbox goes together.  everything else is very solid.

Troubleshooting / CA M249 PCG Gearbox Failure w/ pics

At the DogSkull op yesterday, the SAW stopped firing during the second round.  The reason was just as suspected, a broken piston.

I'll happily take comments, suggestions, and requests for more pics(While the gearbox is open).

I took some pics to show the gearbox internals and the damage:

Are those all the pics that Teach took? He took some neat ones of me I think that I don't see there.

Hi Vince,  Those are the ones he took with my camera.  He also had his own camera that I think he took a few rolls on.  His is a 35MM film, so he get the pics put on CD for us so we can put them online when he gets the neg developed.  I'm sure your pics will be in that bunch if they're not in mine.

- P9021110.jpg is my fave. Love the prayer. It looked like a great game for AMSOG's first. If I'd've been able to make it this weekend, I'd have risked having Benn jam his size thirteen combat boots up my ass. I'll be sixteen in a month, so maybe next time I'll join in.

NICE!! Good job on the pics Bagger.

Thanks War savage!  Teach took them for us.  He also used a couple other cameras, so there will probably be more.  Mine is digital so I got to getting them up when I came home.
