Well guys, the people have spoken.  It seems I've already made enemies before ever getting my feet wet in airsoft.  Since I'm clearly in uncharted waters, I'll bow out of the Arizona airsoft community and stick with video games.

Cheers!

The last word I would is "drama".  I'm ex-military, and there's obviously a lot of other ex & current military on this forum, which is why I posted the topic in the first place.  I thought it was interesting.  It looks like I was wrong, because out of nowhere one of you, who of course I don't know, is saying you would "kick me in the cockholster" for talking about something like this, that is, if it were you.

Well, dickhead, I'm not talking about you.  I have no idea who you are, what you do, what your background is, or how many cocks you can fit in your mouth at one time.  What I do know, is that you are a blowhard and a raging douchebag.

I was really looking forward to meeting a lot of the Arizona airsoft players and get into my first game, but assholes like you make me suddenly think twice.  I'm pretty thick skinned and usually don't let dumb shits like you get to me, but you've managed to.

That's the goal for him, I think.  I honestly don't know why he picked the MOS he did.  He's hoping to try to apply again down the road, but we'll see.

Good point about the 7 years.  I do understand why they came to that decision, I was just more surprised than anything.  In the end, I'd rather they keep the high standards instead of opening the flood gates.

Nice!  I was just looking at the GoPro Helmet HD last night and plan on ordering one in the next couple weeks.  I've read mostly very positive reviews on their line of cameras.  Nice way you mounted it, too.

A friend of mine, who is a licensed helicopter pilot with both his instrument rating and commercial license, has been trying to enter the Army's warrant officer program for several months now (he obviously wanted to fly for the military).  For those of you who don't know, warrant officers fall between enlisted and officers (they're treated as officers by enlisted folk) and are reserved for specialists.

He needed 3 letters of recommendation, and after passing the board, he would go to enlisted boot camp then straight to warrant officer school.  Assuming he passed both, he would then go to flight school.

Last week, I was surprised to hear from him that despite all his qualifications, he was disqualified because he admitted to smoking marijuana once after turning 18 (he's 23 now), and that it was over 3 years ago when he smoked.  Not only can he not be a pilot, he couldn't work in any field in aviation, which includes ground crew or mechanical.  He tried to get a waiver, but no luck there.

I was surprised because I figured since the military has been lowering their standards so much over the past few years that they'd waive him.  When I was in the Navy, I worked with a guy who was convicted of grand theft auto twice in Baltimore before the judge finally said "Go in the military or go to jail".  But again, that was ten years ago when that kind of thing was more common.

I think in his case the Army's decision to automatically reject him is a bit extreme.  At the same time, it looks like the military is raising the standards.  I don't know what the recruiting numbers are, but if they won't waive something as trivial as smoking pot once years ago, then they must be filling their quotas.

He's enlisting, anyway, and hopes that he can work his way into the aviation community down the road, though there are no guarantees.  He'll be working on Bradley Fighting Vehicles, instead.

Sweet.  When I saw Four Peaks, I figured it was up in the high country, not desert.  Looking forward to my first game out there.

I have my pre-order at GameStop in North Scottsdale.  They said they're expecting, as many GameStops are, a major shortage on the game within the first 2 days.  I can't wait to see what kind of numbers MW2 pulls in terms of sales.  I would think it's going to smoke any other game, including Halo and GTA.

I ordered a couple clothing items from them recently, and it was my first time ordering with them.  I had no problems - shipping was fast, email communications were good.

General Airsoft Discussion / Airsoft GI: Bad First Experience
« on: October 30, 2009, 08:35:05 AM »
UPDATE:

I just received an email from someone at Airsoft GI about the vest.  All he said was that the photo on the site is indeed outdated, and he thanked me for the the inquiry.  Are you freaking kidding me?  He didn't offer to extend any kind of RMA or refund, just a sad, inexcusable explanation.  I'm pretty furious right now.  Nothing for me to do, except to just bite the bullet and don't buy from them anymore.

------------------------------

A few weeks ago, I bought a tactical vest from Airsoft GI.  This order was destined for failure from the beginning.  First, the shipping information they gave me was incorrect.  Only after I contacted them did they give me an update as to what was actually happening.  I ordered a patch (which the site said was in stock), but was actually on back-order.  The back-ordered patch was keeping the vest from shipping.  I had to instruct them to ship the vest ASAP.  But when I got the vest, the patch was with it.

Okay.

Then, as I took a careful look at the vest, I realized it wasn't the same one as the one pictured on the website.  So, I went to the site and gave it a thorough look over to see if I was missing something.  There were a couple prop items (magazines, grenade) on the vest pictured, but the item description clearly stated that those items weren't included.  What was missing from my vest, according to the picture, was a pouch just below the left shoulder.  This is obviously a permanent part of the vest, not a prop or add-on.  So that means that either the vest I got and the one pictured are not the same type, or the pictured vest is out of date.

Either way, I contacted Airsoft GI via their support email on Wednesday.  It's now Friday, and I haven't heard back from them.  It's safe to say that I will never order anything from Airsoft GI again.  I rarely complain about anything, but I have no tolerance for poorly run ecommerce sites and crappy customer service.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else has had issues with them.

General Off-Topic Discussion / Re: PETA
« on: October 28, 2009, 12:57:33 PM »
Half the time, whenever you see a PETA protest or ad featuring a naked celebrity (which I have no idea what that has to do with animals), it's common to see attractive women.  Next to drugs, cosmetics rank at the top of things tested on animals.  So obviously, PETA is just as ridiculous as most other fanatical organizations.  Just another cause for blowhards with too much time to jump on.

If it's all right, I'd like to come by to literally "meet and greet."  I'm new to airsoft and still acquiring gear and guns.  I won't be able to play, but I would like to at least check things out and maybe meet some folks.  Of course I'd still pay the fee.

Is that cool?

I served in the Navy and deployed to the Gulf for the invasion in 2003.  Obviously I didn't spend a lot of time on the ground, but what I can say is this: listen to the guys who've been there a while.  Anytime you go from home to a forward area, you're likely to get a bit of a shock as to how things "really work", and the guys that have been there will no doubt show you the ropes.

Just stay focused!

It's not super close to you, but REI would probably have the G2.  The REI in Paradise Valley is just off of the Cactus and Tatum.
