General Airsoft Discussion / Re: Why I love and hate Milsim.

I definitely agree with you.  Just wish there were more guys out there that were in physical shape to play for three days straight on little sleep.

You misunderstand. There's a lot of us in our 20s (or 30s or 40s even) that can handle that kind of game play. What you aren't anticipating is the impact that this will have on our lives. Showing up for work worn out and tired as fuck from a 3 day game is not the sort of thing that impacts our work life well. You, as a high school student, may be able to sleep through class, but most people can't catch some Z's on the job and expect the boss to accept it. If you have a part time job, sleep through your shift and then try to explain to your boss that it was because of MILSIM.

Then you have have to consider that, for the vast majority of airsofters, that isn't fun. I was with you when you said night missions. I was with you when you said land nav. Hell, hauling 80lb of gear sounded like something I should try once or twice before knocking it. When you said 3 days of game play, with little (I assume you mean 3 or less hours a night) of sleep, you lost me and a ton of other people. It's not that we can't hang. It's just that we're sane and enjoy the fact that we don't have to suffer through that sort of thing. If you're that hardcore, then East Winds is THE ONLY answer to your prayers.

Haha, alright, maybe not three days of that as most people lie you said can not do it because of other conflicts, I just want that real milxim experience of the modern day, not East Wind.  Maybe MadSarge will put something together for up in Prescott soon.

I've been to a couple of the LC games and enjoyed them because,
1. I got to see a lot of friends, new and old, in one place.
2. The AO's were kind of neat.
3. For the most part it's a group of like minded individuals.
However, was it MILSIM? Beside the Super Bowl level gear show, no.
It had a command structure and loose storylines but with a large crowd you're going to get the "I paid $$$ to be here and I don't want to do those orders, I'm doing my own thing."
It comes with the territory. Plus there was a lot of walking around with no orders, objectives or directive. Just walk around until you see bad guys: shoot at bad guys.
Now I would have had more fun with direct objectives, even if no shooting was actually involved, as long as it was part of a larger scale cooperative.
Now a 24 hour event would be fun, but it takes conditioning and most Airsoft players aren't up to that level and aren't interested in achieving it. My personal goal is to get to that kind of level.
I think a good model for a 24hr scenario possibly in AZ is to design a game where you can utilize both the dedicated endurance guys and the players that have other desires. E.g. Have a firebase that runs out or finished missions every few hours, if your up for it load up, if not hang back until the next. Not only would this let guys who want to run the whole 24 ironman it out it can even inspire other player to want to obtain that level to extend their experience. I totally respect the guys that can run those long games. It's also a balance of AO size vs. player count. 300 players in a square city block? Just an Airsoft death match.
100 in a couple square miles? Totally different game. Now you have land nav, comms and tactics.

I definitely agree with you.  Just wish there were more guys out there that were in physical shape to play for three days straight on little sleep.

My problem with East Wind is this, I've played at D-Day adventure park so many times for Operation Broken Home by AMS and when MSE was still big (Yes they are still around but the good guys from MSE started AMS) I went to a few Oklahoma Invasions. I'm just not a fan of the field. East Wind does look cool though, but I want modern day stuff, not the 80's.  Only type of older stuff that looks really cool to me is WWII stuff but thats more reanacting then what I like.

This is my question, I know some really enthusiastic milsim people throughout the country that are into the whole realism aspect to it with the gear and the gameplay.  if I could get enough to commit to coming here, is there any chance there could be something like a  Red Dagger?

This is the point I'm trying to make. I am a 17 year old Senior in high school. I am joining the Navy, hopefully going to get an EOD Rating.  My point is, does anyone else like this kind of milsim enough to do more games like this? I love the challenging terrain and the change up from urban warfare.  Camping in the field during play is a huge bonus to.

Alright, so here is my pitch.  I've been around the world of airsoft and milsim a few times.  I've owned many Systemas, GBBR's, tons of AEG's.  I have owned all the gear from real Ops Core Ballistics' to AOR1 6094A's, NODS, CRYE, everything.  I've played at many different milim games from John Lu with Lion Claws, American Milsim with Frosty and JP, John up with Blacksheep Milsim and many more.  Now here is my problem with those guys, sorry if I offend you but that is not Milsim to me.  AMS is not that bad nor is Blacksheep, they keep the milxim atmosphere alive with Dam Missions and such, but it seems to me that 90% of the time at John Lu games it's just fat guys running around re-living the glory days. It's not fun or realistic to me, almost as bad as paintball.  Now here is where I love milsim.  I love continuous simulation.  I loved playing with Milsim West and locally, I loved Combat Challenge's AO in Prescott.  I love camping in the field, doing land nav in the mountains at night, I love carrying 80 pounds of gear, and I love the real world situations such as being dropped off in the wrong spot at night and having to find your way back to a rally point to attack and enemy camp in the darkness of night.  It's just what I like to do because its realistic, fun, and gives you a sense of accomplishment of doing something besides just killing the enemy because in real life, there is more to combat then just shooting.  So here is my proposal, can we get enough guys in AZ to want to go back up t Prescott and run an OP like that? I miss doing this kind of stuff, John Lu's games are getting boring.  Sorry if I offend you and correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like not has happened in Prescott since Red Dagger 2 which to this day is still my favorite event.  Thats my take on milsim.

Would the owner of the Prescott AO or anyone involved with it please contact me.  American Milsim, one of the big national milsim companies is interested in the AO and would like to know if they could rent it out possibly.  If anyone has the phone number or email adress of anyone who has anything to do with this AO, if you could message me it would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, I will have them do so, I also know some guys in CA that would come over to do it if they do some good scenarios.  I got a entire team in Tucson that has 2012 devgru kits in AOR1 and I know guys in CA that have the same thing, maybe do something like Devgru and Army SF vs. Haji instead of Russian to make it more real.  Also this time have gameplay at night, not just during the day.  Just a thought. I will have them post up on here definitely, love that AO, bit of challenging terrain, but it is like the real thing, makes it fun.

Any Real Steel guys in here ever thought of trying it?  My team has done it a few times and it is really fun.  Not really airsoft releated but just wondering if anyone would be willing to try it?
