Accessories & Gear / Recommendation for eyeglass wearer
« on: June 15, 2004, 11:58:11 AM »
I've been searching for an upgrade from my ANSI rated shooting glasses to something more enclosed like goggles. I saw that most people recommend Bolle T-800 or various goggles from ESS but can any of these be made to work with glasses? I was thinking I could cut a channel into the foam around the edge of the goggle where the arm of the glasses goes back. Would the tension of the goggles frame on my face proclude this from working? I'd really like to avoid getting specialty inserts and I don't have contacts so it would be a "just for airsoft thing" if I got them. If contacts are a superior choice though I'm willing to shell out the $$.

General Airsoft Discussion / AA games and play style
« on: January 20, 2003, 03:42:57 AM »
Hello, my name is David Koontz and I'm going to be moving to Phoenix (Tempe) in February for college and was interested in hooking up with the local 'softers. I started a club here in CA http://www.cvaclub.org that had a distinct focus (mil-sim) and so I'm interested in the 'play style' of the AA games and also the other non-AA games that go on. What's the average turnout at a game? Do you do sport like capture the flag games or more scenario based mil-sim events? Do you have any rules on standard vs. hicap mags? Do you have events that require (or at least strongly suggest) special costumes (Russians, terroists, etc.) Just wanting to get a feel for what I'll be in for [:D]
Sounds like hes really new, so he probally had no idea what the goggle brands were. And by the way welcome to AA!

Thank you MAD SARGE, I am new to AA but not to Airsoft in general. My ignorance comes from never really having any issues with shooting glasses and so I never seriously looked into them. The reason I didn't just search for T800 or NVG or something is that it turns up a bunch of threads almost all unrelated to wearing glasses underneath. I did find azsarge's post from 2 months ago when cobra posted but I couldn't find anything by Ruiner with the keyword "glasses" in the last 120 days. It's really not important, now the info is in twice as many places so hopefully future forum searchers will be able to find it easier than I did [:D]
Sarge is right... not only has he covered this, but i took part in similar discussion no more than 3 days ago on this forum. Im going to be getting the ESS NVG's over the 800's due to the fact that i can get them cheaper, and they have both clear and gray lenses in the box. Not to mention they come in OD.

Thank you very much for the information (and so quick)! Believe it or not I did do a search for "glasses eye protection" and then "sealed goggles glasses" and I found lots of people talking about goggles but no one who directly addressed the issue of using the goggles on top of glasses (inserts yes, but plain eye glasses, no). That is the only reason I posted the direct question that I did. Perhaps my search terms just were not the correct ones to bring up your recent threads. I apologize if I have offended anyone.

When you say getting stuck half cocked, is that after firing full auto or semi auto? When you fire in full auto the piston will stop in any number of positions. Firing a couple shots in semi auto should put the piston at the full forward position. Or are you saying the when the piston is at this position it seems like it's sticking and you can't get the gun to fire? If that's the case I'd look at my battery as the culpret.

It's getting stuck after some full auto bursts. The spring gets stuck half-cocked and then the motor isn't strong enough to complete the cycle and release the spring. That's the main reason I thought I needed something "high torque" to resolve this. I don't really want a higher ROF so upping the battery probably won't help me here. I'm going to go see Scott & Ron tommorow and has this all out. Here's hoping I get it all fixed by the game on the 26th [:D]
Thanks John, I didn't look at his location.

Sorry, sorry. I forgot to update my profile after I moved here. As for the parts I'm looking for it was mainly something to help prevent my spring getting stuck half-cocked. I upgraded to an M120 and I would assume that my motor is having trouble consistantly compressing it. I was looking at a high-torque gear set with probably a matching high-torque motor but I didn't want to add extra stresses when they weren't necessary. Other than that I would be really nice to have someone take a look as I'm putting my mechbox together to let me know if I'm doing something obviously stupid.

Hey Scott & Ron, do you guys carry any mechbox parts? If not is there a good place in town to get some advice on my internals?
