I just got of the phone with a park ranger.   Here are the important points of our conversation...

* Since South Mountain Park is so popular, they dont want any people hiking off the set trails (like we would have to).

* The ranger also said that playing paintball at South Mountain Park is considerd an ACT OF VANDALISM.  South Mountain Park is also a reserve, so any activty that could damage the plants there, like bbs flying at 300+ fps from an airsoft gun could be considerd vandalism.

With that information in mind, please spread the word that no one should ever play airsoft at South Mountain Park.

General Airsoft Discussion / Laws agianst Airsoft...
« on: July 06, 2003, 09:36:07 PM »
I really doubt that there any state or federal specifically agianst airsoft in arizona (I know they're banned in several states but i think that is about it).

so, as i now understand, it's totally illegal to discharge and airsoft on public land within city limits.  i dont know of any laws against Airsoft, but my family owns several guns and i am familiar with arizona (real) gun laws.

i think i finally understand it, the definition of a firearm is very broad under the law, and airsofts fall under that broad definition and therefor the same laws that apply to real guns apply to airsoft guns.

General Airsoft Discussion / Planning a big game...
« on: July 05, 2003, 10:56:43 PM »
The airsoft group I represent is planning a big game.  Just to give you an idea, most of us are highschool grads and college students between the ages of 18 and 25.  Right now we have 10-15 people that are planning on going and we are working on contacting more (one of the ways is posting on this forum [:D]).

The game will be on Sat. July 12 from 8:00am to about 2:00pm depending on the heat.  The loctaion is near the end of Pacos road on the outskirts of Phoenix, exact directions will be forth coming in later posts.  Unless you know of a better location, I will post exact directions by wends.

If you are planning on going:

*Bring lots of water.  We will have extra, but not enough for everyone.  It would really suck if we had to cancel after a few hours, please do your part.

*Sunscreen and a hat would be a good idea.

*We can pick up people from their houses and bring them to the location if needed (please contact me ASAP if that is the case).

*We dont screw around with safety.  I have extra goggles, but it is first come first serve, if we run out and you dont have any goggles there is NO WAY you can play.  Also, dont forget any essential accessories to you gun, we wont have any extra batteries or magazines.

*If you are going to be an a** and cheat or go against mission objectives in an attempt to wreck our fun we will ask you to leave, or as a last resort remove you by force[^]

*I will discuss our specific rules in later posts.  The first and most important rule is common sense.

*This wont be a very "formal" game.  Some of you hardcore people out there might be dissapointed, so take this as your warning.  Most of us dont have "offical" uniforms and there will be no official scoring or ranking system.  None of us own 10 high cap mags and a 450-fps-totally-upgraded-super-gun.  We are not an official team.  We are just looking to have some laid back, but safe fun.

Here is how you can contact me:

Aaron Fielstone

email:  polar117@hotmail.com

home phone:  480-940-9845

Take care everyone and I hope to see some of you there.  If you are planning on going please call my house so we can get an approx. head count.  When you call ask for Dan or Aaron.

i represent a group of 6 airsoft players that live in the tempe area.  we try to have a skirmish at least once a week. we really dont have very formal matches, just some friends that get together and play airsoft.  usually we pick someone's house to meet at then we all drive together to a certain remote area (within 30 min driving distance of tempe).  again, these really arent formal matches and we design scenarios on the fly.  if you are hardcore into airsoft i really dont think you would enjoy playing with us, but newbies and amatures apply.

if you guys are just looking to have some laid back fun (safety first of course) send me an email and we can get in touch.

General Airsoft Discussion / any ideas for the next CQB venue?
« on: June 27, 2003, 02:02:57 AM »
hmmm, i guess it isnt a money issue.  it must be hard to convince a venue owner to let you rent out a venue where you will play mock war games and litter the floor with thousands of plastic balls.  also, i found out the hard way that those damn bbs can make some major dents in dry wall.

i dont have any ideas right now, but maybe we can use this thread to discuss prospective sites for another CQB game.

General Airsoft Discussion / about dry firing an AEG,,,
« on: June 21, 2003, 04:26:37 PM »
One of my friends says after your done shooting, you should dry fire the gun once to "reset the spring".  Is that bull?

Also, why is it bad to dry fire an AEG? (other than putting useless wear and tear on the internal parts).

General Airsoft Discussion / How did you get into airsoft?
« on: June 18, 2003, 03:52:07 PM »
Over the past 5 years my family has got into shooting (skeet, target) and we own 8 real guns.  Some of my brothers friends have been into airsoft for about 6 months and my brother just bought his first springer rifle, so we thought that an AEG would be the next logical step.

There are a few things that attracted me to airsoft:

first, authenticity of the weapons.  I would say that a fully automatic MP5 is one of my dream guns, so that was a major draw.

second, health benifits.  in this day and age we all need to get out doors a little more and run around, so it seems like airsoft is a fun way to exercise.

finally, the cost of ammo.  if any of you are into real guns, you know that other than .22s and really cheap reload 9mm, quality ammo is generally very expensive.  when im unloading a magazine of bbs, it is nice to know that an entire 50rd magazine holds less than 25 cents worth of bbs.

General Airsoft Discussion / re-using bbs
« on: June 17, 2003, 06:22:14 PM »
ok, i know some of you must be cringing right now, but is it ok to put used bbs through a springer?  i wont risk it in my AEG, but i dont see any reason why i cant put used rounds (cleaned of course) through a springer.

General Airsoft Discussion / Best way to break in a TM MP5-A4?
« on: June 17, 2003, 11:10:36 AM »
Until now all my experience has been with real firearms.  So, what are the do and donts of breaking in an AEG?  I plan on extensivly reading the inbox manual and the newbie FAQ before I fire a single shot, but does any one here have any personal experience or tips about how to best break it in?

Thanks for all your advice guys.

ok, im going to admit it, NEWBIE ALERT.

i live in chandler, my cross streets are ray and rural.  know any place near where I live that will sell a battery, charger and discharger?  if not, any cheap places on the net?  I have seen prices ranging form $30-$80 and I understand that one of the factors in the cost is the maH (higher is better, as i read in the newbie FAQ). So if I want to get a battery that is, say, maH 1700 I should expect to pay about $50 for the battery, $15 for a charger, $15 for a discharger.  Again, where the hell can I find a good deal in the valley?

Thanks.
