FWIW, use this guy next time if you can.  He's the best dentist I've ever used ANYWHERE out of all the places I've lived (Virginia, Oregon, Florida and Arizona).

General Airsoft Discussion / Cool Magazine

Anyone who is into military history or wargaming should check out Armchair General.  I saw the first month's issue in Barnes and Noble and subscribed to it.

It kicks a$$.  The only negative thing I can say about it is that they use paintball to discuss tactical warfare and not airsoft!  :)

It's on the web too: http://armchairgeneral.com/

BTW, where is the airsoft magazine?  I mean they have about 6 for paintball now... there has to be enough folks playing airsoft to warrant an airsoft mag!

General Off-Topic Discussion / Full Spectrum Warrior for PC

FSW for the PC is coming out (if not out already).  The demo is here: http://www.fullspectrumwarrior.com/gm_demodownload.php

Old news to the Xbox crowd, but I hadn't seen it.   Can you learn good airsoft tactics from it?

Thoughts?

General Off-Topic Discussion / Freaky...and scary
« on: August 10, 2004, 09:47:06 AM »
In late 2000 and early 2001, a guy posting to a web board claimed to be a time traveler from 2036.    He made a lot of wierd claims that are difficult to dismiss and frankly fairly scary.  His description of his time machine, the principles involved and the diagrams and photos of his machine are believable enough to give me some chills.  The scary thing is that he predicts a US civil war starting at the end of this year through 2015 or so, when there will be a nuclear war.  Enough to make me want to go buy a gun...(a real gun, not an AEG :) )

You might want to check it out.  It IS fairly freaky.

Accessories & Gear / Machine Shop Stuff

Someone in the internal newsgroups at work pointed out this site that apparently does machine work based on your drawings using a small CAD tool they supply.  Given the number of gun mods I see going on here all the time I thought I'd post it.

Anyone seen this article yet?
http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/0502guns02.html

Looks like it was timed to help that Softair store that is just opening.  It is ripe with misinformation and/or disinformation.  Things like  "The replicas shoot harmless lightweight nylon plastic pellets at one-third the velocity of paintball guns", which is just plain wrong... although they do have about 4x less impact stress mainly due to the 12x less kinetic energy...

Anyway, the "secret" is "secret" no more...

Accessories & Gear / Good deal on BB's and stuff but...
« on: March 30, 2004, 05:05:53 PM »
I'm just back from Japan again, and I was in Akihabara looking at airsoft stuff.  They have some incredibly good deals there on TM stuff.  Saw a new G36 (with no batteries or anything) for ~$195.  I also got a bag of 2200 0.25g Excel BB's for about $7.80 and a battery discharger (although I was taking a chance since I couldn't read the package) for $7.30.  See pic.

I think whenever possible in the future I will try to buy my accessories in Tokyo :)

They had a great selection of accessories too.  So, if you are ever in Tokyo, I suggest going to Aso Bit City in Akihabara.  Their glass enclosed AEG range is way cool too.

Accessories & Gear / Tactical Vest w/ room for G36C mags
« on: February 24, 2004, 01:01:37 PM »
After all the fun I had last weekend, I'm looking to get a tactical vest to make it a bit easier on myself.  Trying to pull G36C magazines out of an M16 buttpack when under fire isn't that easy.

Anyone know a good tactical vest that the G36C mags (which are slightly curved) will fit into?

By the way, maybe I'm just getting too old (33) but my legs are killing me from all the kneeling and stuff...  am I the only one who feels this?

AEG's / HiCap Mag Problems
« on: February 17, 2004, 01:18:07 PM »
Is it usual for a hi-cap magazine to jam up?  I've had no problems running bbs through my G36C normal mag, but after about 20 bbs through my hi cap mag, the thing jammed up and wouldn't work right.

I am thinking about ordering another normal G36C mag for this weekend, but I don't know I can get it in time...

Anyone know a local source?

AEG's / SD battery = ?
« on: February 15, 2004, 10:57:54 AM »
Ok, I got a 600mAh SD size battery from Dentrinity when I bought my G36C, but from what I've been reading on the board this isn't going to be enough for a day's worth of shooting come next weekend.  Hence I'd like to buy another battery, preferably from someplace closer (so I have time to get it and charge it before next weekend).  I'd like a nice 1700mAh battery, but I can't seem to find any that are called out as SD batteries.  Is SD battery the same as mini, or the same as Large?  They look the same in picures I've seen, but the pics are obviously not to scale...

Anyway, does anyone know of a nice >=1500mAh battery I could buy for my G36C?

Thanks,

Chris

Accessories & Gear / BB's
« on: February 05, 2004, 08:58:37 PM »
I bought some 0.20g Excel BB's from Precision for my G36C since that was what Precision was bundling with their G36Cs.  However, the BBs that came in the Tokyo Marui box are 0.25s.  Will it hurt my gun to shoot the 0.20g BBs?

Also, I've seen 6mm paintball BBs, is there any particular reason no one seems to use those?

AEG's / SuperBrain 959 & G36C SD Battery
« on: February 05, 2004, 06:26:02 AM »
I bought a SuperBrain 959 charger based on the group's recommendation, but the battery that came with my G36C doesn't have a connector that can connect with the charger.  Not even the banana clips will work (at least not without stripping the wires).

It seems that the battery connection is too small.  I assume I need some sort of connection adapter.  Anyone know where I can get one?

I am THIS close to being able to at least test fire my gun... just need this one thing...

Thanks!

AEG's / G36C Flash Hider
« on: February 03, 2004, 10:15:56 PM »
So I was looking at my new G36C today and trying to figure out how to take off the orange flash hider that Dentrinity put on it.  It took me a bit realize that there apparently is a screw in the bottom of the flash hider that one must unscrew before one can unscrew the flash hider from the barrel and replace it with the real flash hider.

I actually started to just try to unscrew the flash hider before I realized this and put a bit of stress on it and the barrel.  Not that much, but it still annoyed me.  Anyway, I am trying to use the allen wrench included with the gun to remove that flash hider screw and it DOESN'T FIT.  Not only that, but no allen wrench I have is small enough, even though I have one smaller than the one in the gun case.

Anyone have any suggestions on this?  What do I have to do to get this thing off?

Thanks!

AEG's / Dentrinity G36C
« on: January 27, 2004, 10:35:19 PM »
Ok, I don't want to rag on a sponsor or whatnot, but I have an issue that I want the forum's thoughts on.

I want to buy one of Dentrinity's new special G36C packages that I saw someone else mention here.  It comes with:
Marui H&K G36C with Normal Magazine
-8.4v 600mAh battery
-470rds High Capacity Magazine
-Price includes Express Shipping

All for the low, low price of $293... a good deal any way you slice it.

However, it doesn't say it comes with a charger.  I take it to mean that it doesn't since the chargers I've seen have run $60-200.

So I used Dentrinity's web email thingy to send them a note asking what charger is needed, but no reply.  Is this typical of their "support"?  Should I buy from them?  I get to Hong Kong about once every 10 years, so it would be a while before I could show up for a refund in person :)

Anyone know what charger would work with this battery?  If so, I'll just order it.

Thanks,

Chris

Accessories & Gear / Airsoft Target
« on: January 25, 2004, 11:50:59 AM »
Anyone have a suggestion for a decent sized airsoft target that I can shoot at in my back yard?  All I've seen are the sticky ones and they look pretty small.  I'm looking for something at least 19" or so square that will also recover my BBs.

Thanks
