General Airsoft Discussion / Anyone who has played with The Strikers.
« on: January 13, 2008, 10:00:08 PM »
To anyone who has ever played with or against the strikers or gone to visit Airsoft Ohio, you might know of Punisher or Blade, the two French Canadian guys who are at the head of all of them.
We are all shocked to hear- http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?Dato=20080113&Kategori=NEWS01&Lopenr=301130017&Ref=AR

I'm left stunned and speechless and I wish everyone well in this time of trouble.

looks like it's quoted here:

United States military doctrine describes 3,600 m as the maximum range. Effective ranges
include 600 m for a point target, 800 m for an area target, and 1,000 m for suppression. Tracer
ammunition burnout is at 900 m, however. The advised rates of fire are 85 rounds per minute
with no barrel changes. With a barrel change every two minutes, this increases to 200 rounds
per minute. For a barrel change every minute, the rate of fire can go up to 850 rounds per
minute, which is approximately equal to the cyclic rate of fire, at about 850 to 900 round/min.

I'm not sure that that describes the clutch well.  I thought that I remembered a 5 and some plethora of 0's... but it was a few years ago.

Doesn't a real M249 have roughly the same ROF as a real M16, if not a little lower?

No, not at all, the SAW sounds like paper ripping when it's fired.  It's got a clutch on it that can sustain 3 different rates of fire depending on what gear you have it in.  I really can't remember what the rates are in each... suffice it to say it's A LOT faster.  I've even seen a 240B move a prone soldier firing it about a foot backwards.  That series of weapons have stupid, just stupid rates of fire.

Granted I was heavily into it in Ohio, until late '04.  Then had some issues, but yes I've been out since then, but still on boards, and ghosting the culture.

I have yet to deal with a SAW, I heard that they have a "8mm gearbox to sustain higher rates of fire"  I just wanted to know what that could be safely pushed to, outside of the traditional limits... I mean that extra 1mm-2mm has to account for something, right? I just am trying to judge what that something is.

I wasn't wondering what would happen if I did this to a specific weapon that I have yet to have any experience with... I'm trying to learn, as opposed to just jumping out there and mucking it up.

We have played with a freaking mini gun saturating the area, scares some, others keep going regardless.

That alone scares me.

So your telling me that if your about to come around a corner or out from behind a tree and the only avenue of exit is full of a spray of bb's, your going to walk out into them?

That's Psychological.

Been in airsoft for 6 years... not new... trying to work on tactics. Not trying to learn the game.

I'm asking a simple question and not destroy teams gun.  Also I'm not trying to get into a piss fit with people on-line.  Whether or not you agree with  what I'm trying to do is frankly moot, I just want to know how to deal with it, and if it's possible.

As a note, I'm a person who would prefer if the sport fully went to one shot one kill, as opposed to the spray and pelt method to shooting folks.  Also, I'm not the team's SAW gunner.
I am however an infantry vet, and I like it with the SAW firing at a higher sustained ROF than the riflemen.  No it's not a "man if we can get more bullets then we have more kills", it's if we can utilize it as an effective combat multiplier then that's what it becomes.  Suppressive fires include mainly keeping folks head in the dirt while your main effort moves up to the objective to take it out.  If we have something that can put out that much of a psychological impact (I don't see many troops that enjoy moving in the open while they can hear a M60 hammering away), then he doesn't need to take people out.
Right now, the SAW we have shoots at about the same ROF as the rifles we're using... and for the purposes that we're going for, I don't really see that as what we're wanting out of the weapon...
If it ends up that that's what we have to do; use it just be the "full time auto" then fine, we'll adjust our tactics, but I'd like to see if I could incorporate The tactics that I'm use to first.
I'm looking for the SAW to be the "massed fire" weapon that it is, and ways to make it operate in that way.

Granted: you are limited to the physical restraints of the magazine feed.

Outside of that- Isn't that why the 249 series has the 8mm bearings, to compensate for sustaining a higher rate of fire for longer periods of time?
I mean I get that anytime you put more stress on equipment that isn't going to last as long... but I was waiting for the "OH NO, NO, NO- you'll strip the threads in a moment", or "the wiring can only handle 9.6 volts max", or "sure if you want to blow your fuse" ETC.
I mean If we put in a 11.1V 1400MAH, or a 10.8V 4200MAH will the bushings last only a day or two, or will they just wear in a general sort of "sooner"?

Honestly, I'm figuring that the 12+ volt is out right, and just way too much for the system to handle. But if I'm wrong, is there anyone who can tell me...

If it will last us still a while like 10ish games, I think I'll try, but if it's only gonna be  a few... then not so much.

AEG's / Why not a Higer Voltage on a 249?
« on: January 04, 2008, 10:48:50 PM »
If we are using a Echo-1 249, what would the problem be with using a 10.8, 11.1, or even a 12 volt of ANY mAh?

Would there be any way to upgrade the 249 to handle these voltages and amperages?

HA!!!!!!!!!, now that you mention it, it sounds a little wrong.  I guess that's what I get for using masturbation to illustrate the equality of underlings...

yah, but that indicates that one or the other is more important, so much like hands, I'm one of two.  Then again I also "switch hit" as it were, don't want one hand being jealous, know what I mean;P
