General Airsoft Discussion / Customs Seizure
« on: February 10, 2004, 05:25:37 PM »
Hello, I know nothing about these forums but I was doing a search on google and it showed up there were a few people talking about U.S. seizures and I was wondering if I could get some help.

My brother bought some M16 GBB rifle and it got seized due to the barrel not being painted and I have talked to the customs officer and first of all he says I need to get power of attorney from my brother (he's in the army right now and is hard to contact) also he said I have to fly over to Los Angeles and paint the barrel with special epoxy paint. Flying there is unfeasible and I was wondering if there was a service I could pay in Los Angeles to have my barrel painted without me being there.

Thanks

Er, sorry I didn't mention this before but there is a time limit before they dispose of the item. The time limit is about to hit in about a week. What is SOL?

Argh!
The POA form requires notorization and it's impossible at this point. I talked to the paralegal specialist my case was assigned to and asked him what options I had and he just got frustrated and started yelling at me. There is no way my brother can call this guy from boot camp and there is no way I can get a POA form filled due to it being required to be notorized.
Any ideas? If not, thanks for all yalls' help.

Good news! The paralegal specialist I was speaking to said it was possible for me to return the item back to the seller and I have recontacted the seller and he has agreed to give me a full refund if I have the item returned to him. The only problem is that I need to get my brother (kind of difficult since he's in boot camp right now) to sign a power of attorney form granting me legal power over the gun and then I can speak to the contractor holding my gun and make arrangements to have it sent back. Currently, my parents are having trouble finding the legal power of attorney form; any ideas where to get it?

It wasn't me that bought it, my brother did and now he's shipped off too the army and I'm trying to get it back for him. Currently I am attempting to get him to give me power of attorney so I can talk directly to the custom's officer. It doesn't look like I'm going to get his gun after reading all the other tragic stories of seizures.

<br />It depends on the agent.  It depends on his/her mood that day.  It depends on the moon phase.  US Customs is an interesting animal.  If they don't care about seizing it, you CAN get it back with a lot of work.  If they don't want to help you and don't want to get it to you, you'll never see it.  Which retailer did you buy it from?  Some of them guarantee against seizure and will ship you a new one.

The seller most definitely won't pay me back becaue he's not a large dealer and can't swallow the losses. Also, it doesn't affect his reputation since he does small deals and this deal was an off-ebay trade.

Well he gave me the number of some "import specialists" that deal with airsoft guns; I'll try to find out if they had any cases similar to mine and see what they did. How can I have the item returned to the Hong Kong seller if possible. The seller stopped replying to me because he obviously was happy with the $500 he got.
Thanks for yall's replies.
