Debate (Help Me Choose A New AEG)
« on: June 24, 2006, 06:17:54 PM »
I am looking to buy a new AEG, I had an SRC M4A1, The gears took a dive during a game one afternoon, Kinda set me off, and I fell away from airsoft, but now im looking to get back into the game, But Now im debating on getting an MP5, I have never owned nor operated one, But have always been partial to The M4/M16.  Any and all responses and Or Opinions will be welcomed both postive and negative.

 Thanks

Look wise, I prefer the M16 series over the MP5 anyday. Although, for CQB use, I'd prefer an MP5 to any M4 carbine.  The MP5 PDW makes a great backup gun. In my hometown (Sacramento, CA - looking to play with you Zonnies as I will be working with my father this summer) many people who use APS2, M700, L96's and such sling a PDW over their back if they ever get into a tight situation or need to lay down some cover fire.

Also, stick with TM. Although many people stick by their CA M15's, but my experiences with their internals have been bad.

If you like m4s, get an m4. Just make sure you buy a decent brand next time. SRCs are.... not so good.

I do Like M4s but want to expand my horizons and was hoping for some insight to an MP5 in comparison.

My opinion is to keep your M4, put some metal bushings, steel gears, and have it shimmed up then the src gearbox is as good as any. I had these upgrades done to my "mutt" and it works great. Also a helluva lot cheaper than a new AEG.

You can come out to a game next time and have one of us let you try out an MP5. I still have my ICS MP5A5 and would be glad to let you go through a round or two with it.

Gear problems are pretty standard with SRC's, but they really arent that bad of a gun. Put CA gears in there and u should be good to go. Also, i would reccomend that u buy a gun style you like. Airsoft will be a lot more fun for you if u enjoy using your weapon. As far as my fave AEG, i am rather partial to the CA33E. I also hav an SRC SR-16.

Not a fan of MP5s, especially because most of the games hosted are outside, in wide expanses. Very rarely are there ever any CQB games. I love MP5s, and they are great for a second gun, but having only one MP5 is not sufficient for what we do. I personally like the M4 series because there is so much support and so many aftermarket parts for them.

You can by a TM M733 for around 210.00 before shipping.  They make a great "starter" or back up gun.  Here is a upgraded one on ebay right now:

That is a pretty sweet deal. If I were in the market, I may go for that one. I like the M733, had one, upgraded to a CQBR.

it would be smart to buy a gun you like/enjoy.  i have one of my favorite guns of all time, a G36 which i will turn into an MG36 (being one of my favorites) and it make the game more enjoyable. my fist gun was an MP5 and i really wanted an G3 or G36 at the time, and was disapointed i never had one so i finaly got one and i'm hella happy.  so saying that buy an m4 if that is what you like, i would say one from CA, most people will say CA CQBr, (they are nice guns to common for my like tho) they are very coustomizable as well. many people have the costumized down to the grip. but if you decide to go with an MP5 i would recomend TM as well, i just remember that the older CA mp5 guns were not very consistant and the internals had some troubles same with the ICS, i don't know if they have changed them recently.
