off topic a lil bit but....

Anyone Tried out the Converse Desert Boots? Specifically the "Pursuit" models?

Back on topic, Combat boots provides the ankle support, overall foot protection, and traction,  that most shoes do not. Hiking boots offer some of this but not to the extent that a REALLY good pair of hunting boots, or most medicore Combat boots will. And if you drop the bank for a REALLY good pair they can last YEARS even in full service with propper care, I have several pair of the old black leather issue boots that have lasted almost 9 years of HEAVY use, both in military service, Airsoftin, and even huning. But and here is the hard part, all equipment clothing included needs propper maintance to last, work propperly, and protect you.

BTW the Bellview, with Vibram soles, desert boots they are issueing us Army troops now are EXCELLENT. They are like a pair of sneakers when your moving all day long,  but if your standing guard, or stuck on hard surfaces (ie Concrete)all day they do start to hurt after a while.  The Summer wieght are great as they let your feet breath, but the Winters are gortex lined and thus you MUST air them out at least daily after wearing them in anything but COLD weather else you'll start having foot rot problems.

So where does one go to try on different pairs of boots?  I looked at surplus stores, but they're pretty limited.  I'm reading about all of these different name brands, but I never see them when I'm out shopping.  Please don't tell me everyone is dropping $100+ on a pair of boots they bought online sight unseen?!

Combat boots serve many purposes in the field as we all know.  The first thing people need to realize is that combat boots are designed for "combat". In a warzone a soldier can be sure that his/her boots will be destroyed.  With that in mind, the DOD is not going to drop 3 billion dollars on a contract for "wonder boots".  Uncle Sam wants them FAST and he wants them NOW! As for the tread, they wear fast because that's how they are designed.  The soft rubber "grips" better on rocks, wood, dirt, rubble, etc.... that way the troops are not slipping and falling on there ass.  Combat boots are becoming better over time and are lasting much longer.  I go with Atlas.  Atlas is one of the main contractors for the United States Military.  I have two pairs, one jungle, one desert.  Both are canvas sided with Panama Treads.  Had them for over 3 years now.  Boots are still in great condition!  If you want to stay combat and wear the lastest issue....go Atlas!  Great boots, good price.  As for the comfort factor....go to Wal-Mart or Wallgreens and pick up a pair of the Dr. Scholes inserts.  Most comfortable boots I have ever worn!
