For once I'd really enjoy seeing 2 GOOD canidates, who have a track record of sayin what they mean, doing what they say, and not bein full of bullhockey. I'd would be nice to actually have to choose a canidate (all levels of office) over their merrits, not over who scares me the least!
The beauty and, ironically, biggest problem of the American government system is that EVERYONE can vote for who they want. This causes "special interest" groups to throw money and support for politicians that further their agenda. Since these are the biggest supporters of politicians, those in DC tend to lose touch with what their real job is: to serve the American people. These politicians will say crazy things to gain support from fringe groups on both sides and then do something else in office to keep the cash and support comming from their backers in big companies.
I forget who said it(maybe it was jefferson), but "our form of government is the absolute worst, except for all the rest."
As for the Bush/anti-Bush war going on; everyone's entitled to their own opinion. I, personally, like what he's done so far. And yes, I can name three good things.
1) He hasn't caved in to "world opinion". By going it alone in Iraq, he showed that America isn't bound by the UN (arguably the most corrupt and useless organization ever). He also refused to let hipocricital countries like France to participate in the rebuilding of Iraq after they refused to take part in the invasion.
2) He appointed John Bolton as UN ambassador. This guy basically said the US will not be a part of any agreement that would interfere with our basic Bill of Rights.
3) He recommended several good candidates to the supreme court. People who would interpret the laws according to the constitution, not based on their political agenda.
The media always paints Bush as a dimwitted cowboy who is doing more harm than good, but never focuses on what has gone right. Wonder why you never hear anything about Afghanistan anymore? Thats because things are going well. Also, Bush is a very intelligent person, sure he has a few quirks, but who doesn't? He graduated at the top of his class in Yale. Look at the staff he has. They are all extremely intelligent and are at the top of their respective fields.
