Call me paranoid, but this sounds like one of those things thats too good to be true.  Its a cool idea but I have yet to see them shoot it and try wearing it around for long periods of time.

Some of his other inventions seem to be the same way.  Even though they sound good, can scientists really confirm that they are feasible?

Check out the "God Light" at the bottom to see what I mean.

When I deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan I can only pray I don't have to lug that bitch around.  I certainly can't imagine wearing that while receiving and returning enemy fire.

IBAs with the collar and groin protection already limit movement.

Then again I'd rather be combat ineffective due to lack of movement than combat ineffective due to being dead.

How will getting hit by a truck prove that it can stand up to a bear?  Don't you need a bear to do that?

I saw it on TV.  I dunno if it was the same guy, but it WAS a dude in a bear-proof suit, and that bear whipped his ass.  He was totally fine though.

In his documentary he never got close to a bear, you must be thinking of somebody else (or dreaming :) )

Yeah its a novel idea, but I think that he would need to develop it more before its ready for field use.

Isn't the point of the suit to allow you to remain unscathed even when a bear/bikers/truck/treetrunk whoops your ass?

What are the odds of you coming into contact with all four of those things while wearing the suit in public?

I think the point that he was trying to make is that its useless unless its some kind of powered armor. Hence I would think the FFW project is more of a practical solution than this suit.

Unless he plans to augment the thing with some sort of muscle enhancing technology I don't see it being really feasible for wide spread deployment.  Maybe in specialized cases such as EOD, or for the first man in during a room entry.  Looks like with would be extremely heavy, cumbersom, and with all those edges prone to snagg on everthing.

The article said the whole suit weighs in at around 16 Kilograms which is about 10lbs.

So, the suit, as a whole, really isn't that heavy.
It's just very cumbersome.
