Need help finding a good place to dine...
« on: December 03, 2007, 08:28:44 PM »
Taking a girl out tomorrow night, she lives in Glendale.  Any good italian places out there that aren't a chain?  And if I have to wear a suit, that makes it even better....

Pizzeria Bianco.  Called the world's best pizza, by many an experienced critic.   This one well known bread chef, Peter Reinhart, went all over the world (New York, Chicago, Naples, Florence, Greece) in his hunt for the perfect pie.  He found it here, in Phoenix.  Perfect place, I think.  Only downside is that they open at 5, and do NOT take reservations.  Get there at 3 or 3:30, if you want seats.  I'd go for 3 on a weekend.    The prices are reasonable.  Around 12-15 a pie.  Problem is, the crust is not a traditional crust, and I wager I could eat 2 of those pizzas no problem.  Not so filling.  They have a bar/winery next door that opens at 4, same owner.  Good chance to get to know her, and the pizzas are, in fact, the worlds best.  Look it up, its like 50 yards from the Science Center Downtown.  Worth the drive, worth the wait.  Best meal I have ever had, and for a kid, I have some serious standards.  Best part is, the guy, Chris Bianco, is there every single night.  I even touched him. Chris Bianco > God

Seriously, don't dismiss this cause of my age.

EDIT: Its pretty casual around there.  Put on a nice pair of jeans, or some khakis, a good looking t-shirt, or a polo, or a decent camp shirt.  You won't be out of place.

I've known Chris Bianco since I was about 8.

It's not really in Glendale though.

I would have to agree with Oggi's based on what you are looking for.

The problem with the snazzy upscale italian places around this town is the food is complete shitt and over priced.

If you don't mind a chain and like the New York style  (lots of tomato based sauces and meats) then Bucca di Beppo has pretty authentic East Coast style italian and its good food.

+1 for Buca di Beppo

Really, Macaroni Grill is pretty good as well.  There's one of those in Deer Valley.  But once again, that's a chain.

Pizza Bianco is da shit!  Unfortunately you MUST Know Someone to get in at the last moment like you are needing.  Try these great spots to take a female that are have easy laid back atmospheres to put her at ease and good food to keep the conversation going.

Sassi
10455 E. Pinnacle Peak Parkway, Scottsdale
Phone: (480) 502-9095
Rating:
Price: $20-$40
This $10 million replica of a Tuscan villa offers great desert views and a rustic southern Italian menu that's often just as compelling: octopus in olive oil, fresh pastas, spit-roasted pork shoulder, sea bream steamed in parchment, juicy lamb sausage. Linger over the semifreddo dessert.

Veneto Trattoria
6137 N. Scottsdale Road (Hilton Village), Scottsdale
Phone: (480) 948-9928
Rating:
Price: $20-$40
A touch of Venice in the Valley. Among the Venetian dishes: baccala mantecato, slow-baked, milk-soaked cod; risotto with pumpkin and mushrooms; and fegato alla Veneziana (grilled calf's liver). The tiramisu is top-notch.

Once dinner is done and you've hit off the NewTimes says the best place for a drink for the first date is    http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/bestof/a ... ard=554019

And if things don't go as well as you'd hope then at least you'll have had a couple of drinks AND It's close to her place to drop her off!

Enjoy Playah,,,

Thanks guys, I'll keep those in mind for the next one.  This time I'm staying on the west side and going to take her to Bistro Di Napoli.  Heard nothing but great things about it.  But for next time, I'll take her to one of the two places Raven mentioned...

...remember, neither of us are 21, and she doesn't drink (but that doesn't stop me! Hahahaha)
