I don't know which is better to use in airsoft, a Red Dot or Iron sights on my M4. Any suggestions?

If you can afford a decent RDS, most people seem to prefer them, but I think it'd be best if you tried a RD out and see for yourself which you'd prefer.

Sights can help you get the shot somewhere close, but do not expect a constant zero, or a zero at all! Irons or Red dot is going be your decision, what do you like? If you do try a scope I would suggest 2x at the max, anything higher is not going be useful, BB may look like its flying when you look down range, but when you look up from the scope you see the truth.

Learn to shoot with irons before buying optics... it gives you an appreciation for what you are shooting.  In airsoft iron sights can be usefull, or useless it depends on the gun entirely.  Some guns can have their sites adjusted to zero out but it's kinda dependent on the manufacturer.  I personaly use Irons or barrel site.  RDS's are nice if they can be zeroed accurately and can maintain that.  If not they dont do much good.

My team plays a lot of night games, and under those circumstances I can tell you that WITHOUT a RD sight, you can be at a huge disadvantage.  During the day, however, it really just comes down to personal preference.  I've used both, and I just prefer a RD still, day or night.  One thing I will suggest for an M4: make sure that you're front sight isn't blocking your line of sight.  Usually this means mounting the optic on top of the carry handle, or removing the front sight.  Hope that helps.
