Paintball Sentry video ......
« on: July 16, 2008, 01:00:59 PM »
This might be very hard to get by in CQB take a look... here is the link. I know he is using a paintball gun but you could put a AEG on there and it would do the same thing.

A \'touchy-feelie\' CNN reporter, while interviewing a Marine sniper,asked,
"What do you feel when you shoot a terrorist."  The Marine shrugged and replied, "Recoil."

WOW, it must have some kind of image uploaded and recognized.. It only seems to be shooting at his mask. Very nice but it has to have a weakness. otherwise whats the point? other than using it as, say, a boundary notification, depending on the range it can see.

Very nice.

I've seen this before. Very awesome! Would take a mighty fine engineer and programmer to build something like that. My only criticism is that it detects movement; therefore, if you stop moving, it stops shooting. It would work better if  it used heat detection instead.

A heat sensor may be better but if the person stops advancing, hasn't the machine done its job? Awesome creation though, very cool if it can be applied to airsoft guns. The only thing I'd be worried about is if the computer was exposed during field use.

Some of his turrent testing videos look like they were performed with a GBB pistol mounted sideways. The gun just goes into a clamp.
It actually tracks pretty fast and has a defined area. Not very practical since it requires a laptop to run it.

If you had something with enough processing power to run the code, that would be one thing. I suspect they are running some sort of synthetic electronic lab equipment, like labview or matlab to have the code drive the system. I think he also said that the servos are running off of the laptop battery as well.

heat sensors wouldn't work so well in AZ where ground temps are often far above human body temps. Motion sensing is about as good as it gets, but you could write a line of code that would have the gun fire for a few seconds immediately after tracking to hit stopped targets. RFID chips for friendlies would be a neat thing for it too.
