Comms and harness for PSGAT
« on: January 25, 2009, 10:17:11 PM »
What type of communication systems and harness system do yall use for your PSGAT? I just picked up a real PSGAT with only the basic harness.  I have been looking at something a little better than your standard chin strap and perhaps some sort of padding to go with it.  I was wondering if the "swimmer" style would fit it or if I could convert it to a MICH. This is what I was think of:

I was looking at this but I really dont want to spend $104 for something thats only going to be used for airsoft. http://www.michhelmet.com/product_info. ... 84b9547618
Now if I was actually in the service like most of the people whom I am directing this post towards it would be a different story.  In fact if any of you HAVE a chin strap I could buy on the cheap just so I could use it for the time being that would be swell.   Now these are only $35, but are they comfy? http://www.mrmilitaria.com/p-328-achmic ... strap.aspx

I doubt it, but would something like this be ok to use combined with safety glasses in a CQB environment? http://www.specwargear.com/images/Helmet-PASGT-7.jpg

I have seen these, but I sure as hell aint going to pay close to $400 of it:

I have Skydex pads in my ACH (MSA TC2000) and they are my choice of the three brands I have tried (MSA, Oregon Aero, Skydex).  They are more comfortable, but the stock ACH pads are fine for you.

The strap that comes with the Skydex kit is dogshit.

The strap you posted a link to is the same one issued on BAE Systems (SDS) helmets and is what I use.  The nape strap is less rigid than the one on the MSA unit but it's still a comfortable piece.  It uses folded nylon webbing straps in lieu of the plastic P clips of the MSA helmets to hold the ladder locks for chinstrap adjustment.  Some see this as a plus because the P clips can break with hard use.

Alot of guys like the new Headloc straps from OPS Core.  I haven't used one in any capacity to give a review, but they look nice.

As for comms, I used a Peltor COMTAC-based comm headset in Afghanistan under my ACH with great success.  For airsoft, I like the Cavalvy Elite II headset (airsoft guns are a little quieter than real ones).

Now, this is all ACH/MICH/TC2000 series based info.

If you bought a PASGT (not PSGAT), sell it and get something better.  If it's for airsoft, get one of the helmets from Gearbox Airsoft.

I've seen a riot shield used well in one airsoft application only - Nil8r in the turret of a HMMWV.  For anything else there isn't much point.

thanks for the post.  I guess I will go for the strap I linked to instead of the OPS Core once since it seems to allot cheaper.

I got the helmet DIRT cheap, and being a cheap bastard I wanted to see if I could get it to work.  Even if the damn thing weights 5#'s. lol  I also figured I would wear it as a crash helmet in my buggy, JIC.

I figured the Peltor COMTAC was what most people would be wearing deployed, but since its only airsoft I doubt I really need the hearing protection.

Oh and thanks for the correction! PASGT

EDIT: If I keep it I think I may go with this http://www.helmetupgrades.com/3pointupgradekit

Any thoughts??

That upgrade kit looks like it's worth a try.

The PASGT is a valid helmet, after upgrades.  The Marines latest K-pot has a shell exactly like the PASGT but with an updated pad system and chinstrap.

Hey Polie, if that upgrade kit works, let me know. I have a very similar pasgt helmet that i got a while back from jungle toys, and it rarely sees any use do to the weight and the ability it has to play havoc with my midland headsets! Wish ya luck mate.

Maybe I just have a fat head, but I can never fit my Cavalvy Elite II headset when I wear my PASGT. It just seems there is never enough space in the ear portion to fit it.
