by Sasha Malekooti, Eddi Trevizo and Tyler Lockman - Mar. 26, 2009 10:20 PMThe Arizona Republic An unborn child died Thursday afternoon after the pregnant woman and a man were shot while leaving a shopping complex on Baseline Road and 51st Avenue in Phoenix.The victims were traveling in a white SUV near a Starbucks Coffee and Cold Stone Creamery about 12:30 p.m. when the shooter approached the vehicle, fired into it and fled, said Sgt. Tommy Thompson, a Phoenix police spokesman.Police were unsure whether he approached the SUV on foot or in another vehicle, Thompson said. The 31-year-old man inside the SUV had multiple gunshot wounds to his abdomen and arm. Injuries to the woman, 26, were not disclosed by police. However, both victims' injuries appeared to be non-life-threatening, Thompson said.He said investigators are treating the case as a homicide due to the death of the unborn child. The mother was five months pregnant.One of two suspects was described as a Hispanic male between 20 and 24 years old, 5 feet 6 inches tall, and 145 to 180 pounds. He had short hair and was seen leaving in a light-colored, possibly teal or green, Nissan sedan with a partial Arizona license plate of A10 or A01.Anyone with information is asked to call the Phoenix Police Department at 602-262-6141 or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
