Opinions on hop-up brands
« on: March 07, 2010, 05:08:05 PM »
i've been looking into putting a new hop-up into my M4 and was wondering what peoples personal preferences are. I've read that King Arms makes a good one. Also I am also looking to put a new bucking and either a SCS or a H-Nub.

I love King Arms hopups, the green G&G buckings, and you can't go wrong with SCS or h-nubs.

I'll second the G&G green cold weather bucking.  If you're going to operate in temperatures lower than 40 degrees I highly recommend it. Other buckings can harden up in the cold which negates the hop up effect, giving you a range of 50ft or less. In my experience this bucking has worked well for me even when temperatures were lower than 20 degrees.

Exactly.

While it is still affected by the cold, it can still apply SOME hop to a BB when you're in icy conditions. You will still have to continually adjust your hopup as you fire (each round warms it up some, and it cools down between shots)... but you will at least be able to use the hopup still.

I am in Concurrence.  I remain skeptical of the SCS nub.  I have purchased one and used it as a "Drop In" like I would the H nubs and the first results where a bit inconsistent in my G&G UMG (200mm barrel FTL) at range, but last weekend it was much more accurate so I'm guessing the fact that two weekends ago it was below freezing and last weekend it was around 45 degrees made a bit of a difference.  Also using the Green rubber in the UMG (thats what it came with) and it worked well enough for me :)

The H nubs have worked very well for me.  Thats pretty much all I use.  I was ordering stuff from AirsoftExtreme anyway so I threw the SCS in the order as well.  I have not done the modifications that Shredder says you are supposed to do to the hop up rubber to get his nub to work "the best" and I dont really want to if I dont have to.

I've been using a combination of the stock hopup with a systema black soft bucking and SCS.  It took awhile to get the SCS honed in just right (it's very sensitive), but it's made the biggest difference in distance and accuracy for me.  Teflon tape has helped keep the hopup sealed.

Reading others' opinions about the KA hopup sounds very wise though.

Shredder recommends Systema hop up buckings for use with the SCS.  Followed by Guarder clear (slicone) and Madbull Blue buckings.  Systema buckings tend to work the best because they are thinner and take the shape of the SCS the best.

In my experience, the SCS tightens groupings a LOT more than tightbore does.  However, you have to make sure it is installed correctly.  If the SCS doesn't not sit level, it will make your accuracy suck.  lol  Once you get it level, it's amazing.  Much better than an H nub.  Some people have even gotten an fps increase with the SCS, which is kinda bizarre.  Shredder does several videos where he chronoes with the hop up off and on.  For some reason, with the SCS, the fps is increased by a lot. Usually the hop up lowers fps, by quite a bit too.

From what I've seen, the things that affect your accuracy the most are:
1. BBs are always the limiter. You can have the most amazing gun ever, but if you use crappy bbs, your accuracy will still suck.
2. Hop up set up
3. Barrel
4. Compression

This help any?
