M4 s-system question for a friend

So according to my friend his JG M4 s-system randomly starded working, he states that when he pulls the trigger the gearbox makes a muffled sound. What could possibly be the problem?

he could be mistaking the noise of a bb that is jammed in the barrel. there really isn't enough info here for me to say anything else.
