To Paint or Not To Paint
« on: June 07, 2011, 09:48:38 AM »
So I usually hate guns with painted camo.  Yes, I know it's more realistic, and yes, I know it's probably more combat effective...
But I hate the way they look!  If I were to paint my guns, I paint them 2-tone (like my M4 Noveske).  But I have never painted a gun with any type of camo, nor would I ever buy one.

... or so I thought.

This is a UTG L96 I got for pretty cheap.  Came with the scope, and I had upgrade parts I could easily drop in.  The only problem is that it came with this tiger stripe camo.  Don't get me wrong, this is one of the prettier camo paintjobs I've seen...  But I still don't like it.  Out of the 12 guns I own, this is the only one with a camo paintjob.

So I decided I wanted to repaint it.  I took it apart, separated the pieces that were going to be tan, separated the pieces that were going to be black...
... and had a change of heart.  The guy who painted this put in a lot of effort (or so he says) into coating this gun, and I kinda don't want to see a piece of art destroyed.

So what do you guys think?  Repaint it or leave it be?

If thats the l96 I think it is, that paintjob only took me about 10 minutes haha. I think I have a total of 3 snipers floating around with very similar paintjobs. Bigwavedave, is this the one I traded you a while back?

Yep, got it from him.  Ripped out all the internals and put in about $300 bucks worth of upgrade parts.
I thought it looked like Rogue Fox's ASR :P

But you spending 10 minutes makes me lean more towards painting it, as opposed to "a lot of time into the paintjob" as said by the seller

haha, he may have put a coating over it after I traded him for it. Ive just done so many paintjobs that they hardly take me any time at all now . But if you want to paint it go ahead, doesnt bother me any, I can even repaint it if you dont like how the two tone turns out. Now if wraithscrono paints my ASR thats a different story haha, that one took a good hour.

Painting is sooooo easy. Just grab some sand paper, go to work, wash the parts off, prime, wait about half a day, then do the rest. So easy you'll wonder why people pay others to do paint jobs.  8)

Just stand back far enough so it doesn't drip and go in lots of light coats on plastic. Metal is like a sponge with paint, but plastic doesn't absorb it very well.

Beyond that have fun! Personally I just free-hand everything to keep the pattern from having large areas of solid colors or any regularity which may attract the human eye. Course' that's just my method of thinking, doesn't mean its right.  [smilie=armata_pdt_28.gif]
