Multicam on multicam vs coyote brown on multicam
« on: July 05, 2012, 07:12:34 PM »
Hey guys, I'm in the market for a totally new load out and I'm going multicam. I already bought the crye precision combats shirt and pants and now I'm wondering, what color should my plate carrier be? I most play outdoors in the desert. Should I go with coyote brown or multicam? I'm also buying a thigh holster and a drop leg panel that will take a triple m4 pouch. I'd like the loadout to look "tacticool" as well as function in the desert as well! Thanks in advance for the help guys! :D

Either one will blend in fine in the desert. If you change your camo then a multicam vest might look a little weird on desert marpat, us woodland, etc., while coyote brown looks fine on just about anything. I don't think drop legs work that well when you are running (either flopping around or so tight they crush your leg), but that is just my opinion.

Either looks good, IMO, but multicam on multicam will cost you 10% more. Though if you just went out and bought name-brand Crye clothing, I don't see that as being a big issue for you. You can probably find plenty of pictures of CB/MC and MC/MC loadouts on the internet and decide for yourself which you think looks best.

I have found that only part that matters on a vest is the pouches, and even then it doesn't matter as much as the uniform. Your plate carrier/gear make a small part of your bodies outline compared to the uniform. Most of the camouflaging effect is from the uniform to break up your form and blend your body with the environment. The mind when looking at objects doesn't receive 100% of images from the eyes, so it tends to fill in this "blank space" and modern camouflage tries to use this to their advantage. I have found that camouflage is most effective when laying prone/crouching low, so the main thing is cover your head, and your back.

I wear a multicam uniform, so what I do in terms of pouches is just have a tan place carrier (because its cheaper), I have tan pouches on the front (if your enemy is looking at your front, it doesn't matter if you blend in at that point) and I have a multicam camelbak pouch on the back of the plate carrier to help it blend in when laying down. I also wear a multicam boonie hat to hide my face/hair. Multicam helmet/ball cap/whatever would work equally well.

Just my .02!

I appreciate all the helpful advice guys! You all made great points, I really do think coyote will be easier if I ever want to switch to desert marpat as well! I think I might go with coyote brown with multicam pouches. As for the drop legs, I'm running them currently and I really like having the stuff on my legs.

I have found that having a tan and black rig will set me up for just about any loadout. For example, take all the pouches off of my black CIRAS, throw a woodland LBV over it, and you've got a 90's army setup:

Or a "10th Mtn" for RDII

You can set up both rather cheaply and then just mix and match as you see fit.

The real military unless you buy it yourself often outfits units with whatever they have on hand. Its not uncommon to see mixed and matched in real units anyway, so don't worry about it not being a perfect match.

That being said, Ive found that coyote tan, ranger green, and even my old US woodland all look good together with multicam.

Your camo isnt gunna make you invisible so having full multicam vest,  pouches, ect doesnt matter. I think having a different color vest actually helps break up your outline which is what camo is designed to do.
So it's really preference, my 2 cents

Oh man you said "tacticool" I don't know if I can help you :p

But yeah seriously though, get what you can, you won't always find a piece that want in the color/pattern you want. I run a CB/CT gear setup because it seems to blend in well with whatever pattern I have to wear, whether it be ACU, digital woodland, or multicam. Honestly though don't freak out if you can't get everything to match up, if you are trying to emulate real deal operators, you can search for pics of them and see that even they aren't 100% pattern/color matched all the time.
