I dont know much about this so please correct me if I am wrong but I think the 1x46 is a bigger scope than a 1x30. I prefer a 1x40 on my gun. That is what is on my gun currently.

well i somewhat know what you are talking about. i dont think it will require scope rings, i'm guessing its similar to BSA red-dots.
shoot-2-kill, the 1 of the 1x30 is its magnification, 1 means no magnifaction. the 30 means the size of the sight aperture(is this the correct word i'm looking for?) or your sight picture in millimeters.

thx you guys for the help on clearing this up so i guess its mostly just a preference thing which size i like more. right?

Yeah its mainly up to you. I would go for bigger. Thank You Firehead you have allowed my to expand my brain 20x what it was. :>

He's good at doing that.

If I read it right, 30 is the millimeters wide the view through the scope is?

No.  Sometimes it is, but most of the time it's the diameter of the outer tube.  It's another one of those things that has gotten screwed up by making replicas of replicas of replicas.

mount rings

im buying a red dot scope from uncompany for my steyr aug (receiver type) i bought the g&g 1x46mm but this was out of stock so they recomended i go with the 1x30mm for the same price what are the differences between these two scopes which is better? Also would i need to order mount rings
