whoa, you can!?  I SHALL look into this one!  my friends and I are all vietnam freaks anyways.  got the guns, got the gear, and who knows, maybe by then we'll have picked up a 1919a4 kit and have turned it into an airsoft gun (friend already made a custom BAR to perfection, a 1919a4 is next on the list).  maybe get some b-day presents a couple days early..... hmmmmm....

AK's better work. The NVA and better equipped VC units used them. It'll be interesting to see which type of people sign up for this: The purists reenactors or the "anything mil-sim" airsoft crew (no offense meant to anyone). If they truly are going to stick mainly to vintage stuff, I'll take a look at it. Granted some things cannot be perfect with the gear as not everyone has $200 bucks to spend just for the correct lightweight rucksack, but web gear, boots, uniform, and helmet aren't hard to get. By far, the when 50% of the guys try to go "special forces", it totally ruins the mood as well as the realism.  Anyone interested in assembling a set can PM me (or just open a new forum discussion) - I do Vietnam reenacting as well as have been putting the film together of which you guys saw the trailer.

I have yet to see a picture or hear of a GI with a BAR gun in Vietnam. Stick with an M14 or M16. As for the M1919a4, basically only the ARVN was using these by Vietnam. American troops were issued the M60. You could probably get away with both if you went VC, though, as they captured a heck of alot of weapons from the french (who in turn were given many WWII era weapons by the US).

I guess if I bought some A1, triangular grips for my m16, it would be closer than an M4... hell.. I'm with UDT- if enough of you want to go.

I would love to go but I already promised my wife most of my vacation time next year.  Plus I am saving for LC4!

If I went I would go VC and buy a Thompson.  I've already got some fun VC outfits I have been dying to wear to one of these games!

If someone doesn't have the cash for an M16a1 and just wants to just "convert" their M16A2  I have an extra set of triangle foregrips I could lend out (though there are alot more differences between the A2 and A1). As for converting an M4 . . . I'd have to do more research what the exact differences are, but you could model the conversions off an XM177 or a CAR15 (just realize these were usually only in the hands of some officers and special forces). Just remember people, the goal is the be the norm, not the exception for stuff like this!

Sniperwolf, if you ever see that picture again, could you email it to me? I'd really like to see it.

Well I just got an email about this game and it said there are about 16 slots left open for the USMC team. They get to pretty much renact the seige of Khe Sahn. Who here is interested in going? The rest of the slots are going to fill up pretty quickly.

Operation: HAC BAO

I found this on the LCIII site

looks like the gameis in Feburary 8-20 2005

http://www.oplionclaws.com/

http://www.oplionclaws.com/OPHB/index.htm

Short Intel:
2005 marks the 30th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. While the media enjoys using Vietnam as a punching bag, we feel strongly about those who sacrificed their youth, if not their lives, in that exotic Southeast Asian country..…Operation Hac Bao pays tribute to both GIs and their South Vietnamese allies who fought gallantly in that controversial war….
Sgt. Kenn Miller, 75th Ranger, LRRP, ran over 80 LRRP missions during his two and a half years in Vietnam, highest numbers of missions! A LRRP record!
Col. Paul Longgrear, a Green Beret legend many times over! A master in winning the hearts and minds of the indigenous population! Saturday, Feb. 19, 2005

A Marine base in the high lands has been completely cut off from Allied units.
In 1968 the USMC outpost in Khe Sanh was surrounded by the NVA. All re-supplying efforts fell victims to NVA’s artillery and mortar fire. The nearby SF camp Lang Vei was subsequently overrun by NVA armor. Can Allied forces break through NVA encirclement and get supplies to Khe Sanh? While the USMC is being bombarded by NVA, a nearby SF camp near the Laotian border is also being attacked!! Can Allied forces manage to rescue both camps?

Winning the hearts and minds...

The village of Mai Lai is a peaceful village in the Mekon Delta. Allied Forces cautiously sends in an advance patrol to scout out the village for VC before moving the rest of the platoon through. VCs are often hidden in local villages and at times forced local villager to act as their eyes and ears. Allied Forces must interrogate villagers and learn who the VC informants are.

Meanwhile, a SF unit is trying to track down a NVA ammo dump in the highlands. NVA has been known to hid out in the nearby Cambodia with loads of ammo ready to attack Allied Forces. Allied Force’s objective is to find and destroy the ammo dump.

A POW CAMP was discovered in the jungles...
Recent CIA satellite shows that a POW CAMP with Allied POWs are well hidden in the jungle. There are many local tribes in the area, however, Allied forces have no way of knowing which tribe is working for the VC/NVA…..but the high command demands that all POWs be rescued, at all costs!!

Help celebrate the Tet New Year!
Tet is the traditional Vietnamese lunar New Year holiday. Allied troops had assumed truth over the holiday period as a form of respect to the local culture. NVA/VC units are tasked to capture local village chief and Allied command elements to add to their holiday festivity! Can you tell the difference between friend and foe?
