FAA also says that you can't shoot from an aircraft. But I didn't think the FAA regulated Powered Parachutes other than to say that they can't fly over populated areas, and a few other small regs.

..That's why I didn't include "strafing runs."

The rules (FAR part 91, I believe) say that nothing can be dropped from an aircraft that would cause injury to those on the ground. -Loose interpetation.

During that paintball game, the legality of the helo was questionable, but nobody complained. It added a whole new aspect to the game.. You had to deal with the enemy on two axis, as the helo crew would shoot at anything they coud see. It made for a fun game.

I have no idea on this subject so I am going to ask just to get info and to clarify.

Does FAA rule apply to high altitude, low altitude, or all aircraft?

It applies to all aircraft, I believe.

Well...From actually being around and riding in a Jet Ranger a few times, I know the rotor wash is pretty strong...Didn't those paintballs just drop to the ground once fired? I think this was brought up by Woody back when I joked about doing a helo insertion.

Guess I should elaborate a little more.. The FAA regulates ultralights as well as all aircraft. Right now, I'm in the middle between operating my PPC as an ultralight, and in the next year or so, it will need to be registered as an N-numbered aircraft.

The FAR's are murky in some areas. I do know that shooting at folks is a no-no, but dropping a waterballoon from above..?

I do fly in a safe manner at all times. The PPC flies at 30mph, and from 1000'agl (above ground level) It makes a great recon vehicle. Unobstructed view, you can look straight down and the PPC is often used for SAR ops in the real world.

It can launch from a dirt road with about 300' takeoff and landing space, and is towed on a trailer behind my Toyota truck.

Just a thought. I have an eight-passenger 24' boat as well ,,,,,

Boy, you've got all the toys.

I don't think we've ever done anything that included a boat. (At least not while I've been here)

Ya know, I have thought about the same thing at Saguaro lake. You know, a naval battle between a couple camp sites. It would be pretty sweet. Nighttime raids on rival camps. JAWESOME!!!

Busta, I'm sorry but I missed your post on the bottom of page 1. To answer your question, the gunners on the Jet Ranger were blasting us on the ground.. Rotorwash didn't affect them.
