My Uncle In Iraq
« on: March 27, 2005, 10:30:38 PM »
Just thought some of you would find this interesting.  If anyone else has family in Iraq/Afghanistan feel free to post.

A small article from the Army website:

http://www4.army.mil/armyimages/armyima ... photo=5368

Another picture of him:

I also had a cousin in Iraq who is a Marine.  Unfortunately, he was seriously wounded and is back in the states.  He and his fellow Marines were searching for IED's several months ago when one went off.  Some of the Marines were killed and the rest wounded.  He doing really well now but the Marines may not allow him to re-enlist.  My uncle just got there about a month ago and should be there for at least a year.

I think I saw your uncle's pic on militaryphotos.net...may be some other dude on a bugel though.

I have a brother in law who is a Blackhawk Crew Chief in Afganistan and a second cousin who is a medic in Iraq.

Huh, this thread should have been started way back. My father was there for six months (got there just in time for the beginning of the war) with the 4th LAR (marines). Now, I have a cousin who was just deployed there with the marines about 1 month ago. I think he's in Iraq for a whole, lovely year . . .

My dad is in Iraq for a year as a Black Hawk combat pilot. You know that Italian journalist? Because of that, my dad flew the Italian Prime Minster! 8)
I'm proud of what he is doing over there, thought I still miss him terribly.

I'm glad there are others on this board I can talk to about this.

Yeah keep posting them guys.  Maybe Kevin will post some pics from his adventure in the sand box as well?

Nice shotgun your uncle is holding.  I noticed he has an 82nd Airbone Division patch on his right shoulder... Nice!  What's his MOS?

My dad just got back.

Excuse me if I follow PERSEC/OPSEC and don't paste images of him all over the public internet though.

edit:  BTW, cool article about that bugle!

Christian, I can understand if someone wants annonymity, but it's not like the Iraqi's don't know what our troops look like.  Yeah maybe cover the name tape and don't post full names might be in order.

My brother in law was 82nd Airborne during desert storm... From his stories, 82nd kicked some serious ass. Just thought I would interject that.

Sorry, I can't remember what he is currently doing but I do remember that during the first Gulf War (this is his second trip to Iraq) he was a chemical officer which at the time meant that he was one of the people responsible for dealing with NBC attacks.  He did describe one recent mission in an email where he was escorting some Iraqi VIPs to the airport.  Apparently they were pretty important individuals.
