Appropriate Cylinder for G36

I'm looking into buying some upgraded parts for my g36. I know the g36 has a v3 gearbox, but I cannot decide which cylinder would be appropriate to stick in it. I know they make like V3 cylinders for the MP5-PDW, MP5k, and AUG. I would guess that a PDW cylinder would be fine, but I'd rather ask before I buy.

Also can anyone recommend a good brand of gearbox for my g36?

Do not put an MP5 cylinder in your G36!  It is ported, and you will lose alot of velocity.  Go with a non-ported cylinder.

As for a mechbox, I like the CA boxes.  A mechbox is a Mechbox (assuming they are of the same type, ie reinborced or standard), so why spend the extra money?

Stay away from Bore Up kits and just get a Full Cylinder.  Of course your stock G3 cylinder should be just fine.  I'd recommend getting Silent piston head set for better performance.

The newer Bore-Up kits from Systema include a full cylinder, Silent piston head and compatible cylinder head.  Exactly what you told him to buy, all in one package.

I've heard from a couple of different people that the doing bore up cylinders is usually only good for high velocity springs.  I think for systema it starts around the m140-m150 springs and up to go with the bore up cylinder.  I do know one guy who used the hurricane bore up in his SR16 and he lost power with it using a systema m120.

I'm well aware of the velocity of these springs and the abuse it can casue your gear box. I'm not suggesting that he use these spring either.

I have what ammounts to a Bore-Up kit in my M4.  

Full cylinder (teflon coated), Silent piston head with matching cylinder head.  I had an M120 and it was shooting 398-399fps with .20g BBs consistently.  I left the spring compressed for 2 weeks and lost about 12 fps.  After using it for awhile, I got it down to 311-312 with .25g BBs (not sure what that is with .20g, but it's way lower).

Today I put in a short barrel and PDI 170% spring.  I know I will lose alot with that barrel, but I'm curious what the new spring will put it at.

Yes but Bore up kits can be troublesome.  Stick with standard size cylinders and piston heads.  If you ever have to replace a cylinder or piston head you're screwed since you can't buy them individually, only in the kits.

Christian there is a big difference between a Bore Up kit and a standard full cylinder silent piston head kit.  Bore Up kits have larger diameter cylinders and piston heads.  If you break something you have to buy a complete kit to replace that part.  On the other hand, standard silent piston head set parts can be purchased seperatly or at least not as a complete kit.

Anyone know if a stock G36 cylinder will work with a G3 length barrel using an m120 spring?

has anyone tried this setup before?

A G36 Cylinder will work.  I can't recall if it has a cut out on it or not, (3/4 versus full cylinder).  You'll have to check for yourself.  Otherwise yes it will work.



Top cylinder is a "High Speed 1/2 volume" unit.  Bottom unit is a "3/4 volume" unit.  A full cylinder has no cut outs on it.
