SWAT 4
« on: April 10, 2005, 11:08:02 PM »
Mmmm SWAT 4. I bought the full, retail version of the game today. I must say, I am very pleased. If you haven't tried the demo, download it  here:
ftp://ftp.sierra.com/pub/sierra/swat4/d ... emo_en.exe

For those of you who remember SWAT 3, I dare say that you will be more than pleased with the latest release of the SWAT series. SWAT 4 is a little bit more user friendly than SWAT 3. The command system seems to be a little more streamlined, and the graphics are up to par with most of today's other FPS games. What I liked was the lighting; combined with the textures, it gives the game a feeling of reality.

SWAT 4 lacks the sheer multitude of weapons that SWAT 3 had, but it pretty much covers all the bases (SMG's, Assault Rifles, Shotguns, & Pistols). Sniping is a whole different kind of system with outside snipers. I wouldn't be suprised if a future patch put in some more player weapons, since there already seem to be models for enemies.

Single player missions are very fun. There's plenty of action and you get to use your head. There are usually many ways to approach the level you are on, so the game definitely has replay value.

Multiplayer is great. You just can't go wrong with co-op in this game. It gets a little slow when you die and have to wait for everyone else (I do a lot of dying  :(  ), but when you can work together, there's never a dull moment.

I will say, this game needs some kind of voice-chat capability, and the command menus seem to be kind of inadequate for MP. Hopefully a patch will address these issues. Just try the demo and see this game for yourself.

The demo was confusing and boring after about 10 seconds. Although the ideas and gfx aren't too bad...It gets boring real quick, and the music cue'ing to a door entry gets lame. But not many games have the Kimber LAPD SWAT 1911...SO thats a plus in my book.

I also got it Friday and played it at a Lan Party all night long.  The game is awsome in my book, and the ability to work as a team in COOP and clear a house/building is badass!  The gfx are top notch along with the gameplay and command system, though as stated a voice chat would be nice.

2 thumbs up in my book.

My money would be better spent buying Brothers in Arms. I got the demo for this game with a PCGamer, and I figured it would be kinda cool.  I got sick of it in 10 minutes when my teammates refused to come over to me and handcuff someone. They got stuck on something.

I really liked SWAT 3 back when it came out (and there's tons of cool add-ons if you happen to still have the cd for it around now). I tryed the demo for this and it seemed to me like a step backward in just about every way except that now you can tase people. That thing is fun.

Especially if you tase people in the face...ahahaha... Just don't ever put a rubber round into your teammates, you won't get out of the barrage of their fire unless you quit the game.

Speaking of double crossing your teammates, I know most of you don't approve of causing trouble for other players in online games... but SWAT 4 has so much fun stuff to annoy people with. Tasers, Pepper Spray, Pepper balls, beanbag shotgun... not to mention the grenades. Sometimes you just have to find that guy that ff'ed you the previous round and let him have it with a few taser rounds.

BTW has anyone besides me seen the Taser exploit yet? I wonder if I have this one all to my own.  :D

I played the real game (previous post was based on the demo) and I take back what I said before. It is pretty cool. I still like the feel of SWAT 3 more, but this is still a good tactical FPS. I do like that realistic stuff that most people hated about 3.

I like the non-lethal weapons... I was having trouble getting more than an 80/100 on the gas station standoff because my team had to keep killing people. I went back and replayed it alone (left my team out back) with a pepperball gun. I managed to get a 94/100 on the hardest setting with just the pepperballs, some pepper spray when that was all out, and plenty of grenades.

The BBE Modifications were some of the best. The Real Officer pack was amazing! Combine that with the RTRT Weapons Mod, get the latest updates and you got yourself a VERY fun game. I went through 2 copies of it, and I'm on my third. (SWAT 3: EE)

I think I need a new computer, I've never had a game take that long to load up!

Fun as heck though, I like the taser and pepper ball gun, although you hardley use them.

The great thing about non-lethal weapons is MP. You can use the bean-bag shotgun and arrest enemy players. As if killing them wasn't enough... now you can humiliate them by arresting them.

I’ve played the game for i don know 5 weeks now and I think the games kicks ass. But they need to work no the weapons a little more. In all of the missions they have a lot of detail on which is cook and you can interact with every thing.
The tactics is very hi for a game and I thought they would never go to that extreme but they did and I can’t believe how good the game turned out.
The whole set up of the game is sweet.
