I agree with Fire.  It can be a little hard to explain to someone over the internet.  In person it is a lot easier, especially if you can watch someone play it.  That is how I got hooked.  My friends back home play it and I had always thought of checking it out and one day they played a short game and I watched and once I saw how you play I was hooked.  When we all took a trip the The Guild (a gaming store in harrisburg, PA) I bought the units I have now.  To try and help you though, IG (Imperial Guard) are humans plain and simple.  Tau are a race of aliens who are highly technologically advanced.  Not really sure about witchhunters, but I belive i saw somewhere that they are sort of sided with the Space Marines and fight the Chaos (please correct me if Im wrong). I saved the best for last, and the ones I can tell you the most about.  Orks...green-skinned brutes who are completely centered on warfare on bloodshed.  They span the entire galaxy and easily outnumber any other race.  If it wasnt for the fact that they are SO bent of warfare that they fight themselves, they could easily over-run any other civilization.  Their weaponry is primitive at best.  Orks revel in loud noises, and blood so they will even brag over whos gun is the shootiest (shoots the most bullets), has the most dakka (makes the most noise) and etc.  Of course all of this Im doing from memory, so I suggest you just go to: http://us.games-workshop.com/games/40K/default.htm

ORKZ RULE!!

We will have to throw down sometime Preacher.  It would be nice to get a few games going now and then.  :)

Well unfortunately I dont really have an army to speak of at the moment, but since I have found people to play with I am probably going to work on trying to build one.  But yeah, once I do get a decent army i am more then willing to play anyone (probably will lose quite a bit starting out but oh well).

To be honest I dont know.  I dont have the units or my ork codex with me right now.  I called my parents and they are going to mail it all out to me at some point.  All I have right now is a Warboss, 1 squad of sluggas and 1 squad of shoootas with one heavy shoota and one burna.  Like i said before I just started playing shortly before i left for BMT.

Ok.  We can still get some squad level games going sometime.  Doesn't have to be immediately though.  I've still got some painting to do as it is.  :)

Is this a d20 base system?

It looks like fun. I used to play D&D but had some troublesome plsyers, so I quit playing. Got into gamma world but that game got harder and harder to find accessories for.

I'll have to check this out.

Nope.  It's a tabletop war game.  It only uses d6 and it gets a little expensive.  :)

Like they were saying a few posts back.  The Dawn of War computer game is a good game for getting the feel for the game and the environment.

Bucket, you might try caling local game stores and seeing if they have a warhammer night so you can go see it being played, otherwise maybe pick up a copy of White Dwarf Magazine, it is devoted to these games and gives you a pretty good overview of the hobby.

Cool, Thanks Lightning. I'll look into it. I am not sure exactly who to check with here since things for thinkers closed, but I am sure I can find out.

Once again Thanks.

Exactly right.  Hardcastle is the only one in town.  They are on 22nd and Wilmot, next to the Speakeasy and Lucky Wishbone.

Magic Tower at Ina and Oldfather might get into carrying 40K, but I don't believe they are right now.  I would recommend Magic Tower for any of your gaming needs though.  Ralph is a great guy and deserves the business because he works to earn people's respect.  :)
