Not true, a lot of the trails I ride out here and there is not an overbundance of those big bag cacti.
Sure I've hit a few in my time, but if you don't fall, you'll be fine.

Btw, mine:

Sweet bike.  I used to ride alot back in GA.   Mostly in my early highschool years.  I had a cheap Raleigh that got the job done.  Never anything fancy, just alot of trails and stuff up in the mountains.  I had a few friends of mine get into competitive riding, I just never had the cash or the time to devote to it.  I havent even been on my bike in at least 2 years.  I would love to pick one up when I get back to AZ, but I just dont have the cash.  I NEED a new AR and AK...plus a revolver...and....yeah...$ disappears fast, and I dont make too much of it.

I had a Raleigh when I lived in IL, great bikes then.  I'm not sure if they are still around or tanked, but they made good stuff.

Luckily the above was due to an unfortunate accident where I let my dads friend borrow my bike.  It fell off his roof rack going 65, and then was run over a few times.  The guy felt bad, and the Kona Stinky 5 was no longer made, so he had to shell out $800 more and get me that bike :P

Now you can get a great mountain bike for around $300.  It has V brakes and not a lot of travel, but well suited for more forest type riding.  Prescott has some good trails if I remember correctly.

I go. You know my bike is a POS. I gotta get a new one. My dad suggested TREK. He said they make good bikes that are affordable. Mabye I'll look into them a little more. I've been working a 40-50 pound for the past 8 months to a year. A great training tool because when I hope on that lighter, new bike, it'll be a breeze.

I have one of the first mountain bikes, a Peugeot from 1985. It still gets ridden.

I bought a new one recently, but the suspension frame robs more energy than it's worth. I still prefer my hard-framed Peugeot.

The Phoenix mountains preserve is a good ride. Start from Mountain View Park.

Uhh...you might want to get a dampener that is adjustable or a spring more suited for your weight, everyones is different..theres brackets of springs from like, 100-150lbs 150-200, 200-250 etc.. I used to have a bike with one that was self adjusting...saved my nuts a few times..heh..

I ride my step-mom's titus switchblade when I go out. I don't do anything like the mormon/national, but the havolina is fun :D
I'm not really in riding shape anymore, though. 8 miles about does it for me :(

I have a bike that I bought from Sports Authority that didn't cost too much.

I did alot before I shipped out, and now I work all day so I could only do it on the weekends, which are filled by training, airsoft and shooting.

So, I just ride around the neighborhood at night after work. :D

I would consider myself an avid Mountain biker. Like Mooncruiser I prefer the hardtails, just cause I like to climb hills. As for the energy robbing suspensions. They've come a long way in the past 3-5 years with suspension. There are new, smarter shocks and forks with new technologies that will compensate for energy robbing down stroke on the cranks. Check out the line of Fox racing shocks. If you purchase a full suspension bike under $300 most likely you'll not have this type of new shock or forks.

I ride a ' 04 Jamis Kamodo hardtail with Rock shox XC Psylo adjustable forks. The spring from the factory is a little on the soft side. I weigh 195lbs. It was designed for people that weigh no more than around 150-175lbs.
