Busta Busss,
It's Done Out of Love Baby!
Had the same thing happen to me right out of college, doing incline flys with 85lb bar bells. Left arm just ran out of gas, damn thing came down on my check and cut right into my gum! I could literally poke my finger through my cheek, perfect slice too, scar is nearly invisible now!
Never had an injury as bad as yours, but seen it happen many a time. The secret to survival on bench exercises is simple.
Your dominant arm, point it straight up in the air and let your other arm come to your side. (If you were standing it looks just like a text book Karate punch when the striking arm extends the blocking arm moves back and to your side.) Do this while still holding the bar, the weight will slide off the lowest end of bar and slam to the floor. The remaining weight will flip the now unloaded side of the bar over and way from you and start to fall to the floor. It Is VERY IMPORTANT to keep holding onto the bar with the still extended arm! Because the weight will slide off the other end and the bar will come falling down.
The other best known method is identical with the exception that you actually have time to safely lower the weight and rerst in on you chest. With the weight to your chest and ditch the weight to one side against initiating the see saw motion! Loud as hell but keeps you out of the emergency room for a while anyway!
Take the girl out anyway dumb ass, you will be able to milk the hell out of these sympathy points! Re-schedule that date, you've got a good excuse and get yer ass back in the gym slacka!
