TM FA-MAS Question...
« on: April 12, 2006, 12:17:01 PM »
Anyone have one or any experience with one?  Are they a good choice?  A friend of mine is getting into airsoft, and he asked me what i thought of the gun.  I personally don't know too much about it, but the fact that it's TM means it should be a very good gun.  Supposedly, he found a deal where he can get one for $280, complete with battery, charger, spring pistol, and dropleg holster.

Of course, the springer is worth nothing

What do you guys think?

I have no experience with them at al, but when I was shopping for my first AEG it mage the short list based on the reviews that I read, talking to a few people that had them, and the fact that they look super cool. I think the magazines are a bit shorter than M16 magazines so probably ned to get some block foam to put in the bottoms of magazine pouches.

Ok.

But the performance and durability of the TM FAMAS is just as good as any other stock TM product, right?  I just wanna know if the gun my friend is buying is a good buy.  That's all  8)

I have owned one with no problems at all. I used it as a loaner for a year or so. If you like the bullpup, you will like it. It is fairly accurate, and has a slightly longer barrel than you would expect, and can hold a huge battery. It took upgrades easily, although I really didn't do a whole lot to it. Very reliable, and I have seen them for cheap. If you can come to terms with using a French gun, then I would go for it.

The only thing is that finding parts for a version 1 gearbox is difficult, so upgrading would be hard. I have not seen all too many people use them in Texas.

Nam did a good review of them. Yes hard to find parts for, and if your upgrading it to 400fps its hard to do that durably. It will get some stress points on the body its self because its all plastic. Easy to adjust hop up is good. It is out classed, and out performed by current AEG's. It would be ok as a CQB gun.

If this is a new gun deal is ok, if its used dont do it.

LOL, people ar so down on the French. The real FAMAS kicks the crap out of the real Enfield L85 series guns. It could be made in stupidyankeestan and it would still be a better gun even though the other is brittish.

well its one of TM's first guns i belive, and its not easy to obtain upgrades, also i heard taking it apart is no fun! but they are pretty good just like most TM guns you know! they are very quite also for an AEG. mostly plastic as i remember. but reliablitly and all the same as almost any TM gun

The only problem with these is that they have EG560s for motors, which don't have the torque to drive upgrades.

There's a mod to use an EG1000, but, it's kind of hard.

I had a FAMAS.  WEll my brother did but that doesn't really make a difference.  All I know is that he layed down one insane ROF with an 8.4 and they still hit hard as hell.

The gun, while plasticky, was durable as hell and looked pretty damn cool.  And I have to say, while somewhat useless, that bipod was interesting and ocassionally fun.

I had a friend who had a FAMAS.  It wasn't any fun to be on the receiving end of that gun, it could lay down some pretty nice fire.  It worked great until he decied to make "a white line with BBs".  In other words, he held the trigger on full auto for about 15 seconds, and fubared the poor gun.
