Gear boxs
« on: May 26, 2006, 05:45:08 PM »
Would a version 3 gear box work in a gun designed for a verson 2 gear box without  much modification? Because JT is selling a version 3 gear box http://www.airsoft128.com/xcart/catalog/VER309GB_Version_3_Completed_Metallic_Gear_Box_Assembly_TM_Com-p-34255.html and  I was wondering if I could put it in a cheap MP5http://www.airsoft128.com/xcart/catalog/VER314A_CFB_Tactical_MP5_Style_A5_Electric_Rifle-p-34159.html?And what kind of gear boxs do P90s use?

I don't know an answer to that, but I would think it would be no.  However, $30 + $50 is $80, and that's not including all the time you're going to spend trying to modify everything.  For $10 more, $90, you could get the Well R5, or for $99, you could get the CYMA MP5-J (http://www.airsoft128.com/xcart/catalog ... 34173.html).  I would recommend buying a gun with a metal gearbox over buying an LPEG and trying to put a metal gearbox in it.

thats true but it's the summer and I've got three months full of nothing to do, might as well do something fun like puting together a airsoft gun and trying my first modification. After all it's better to screw up a 30$ LPEG than a 250$+ AEG.

True and it is your money after all. But I still think you should invest in better components, a trip over to the For Sale board might net you a good deal on quality parts.

Yeah... don't get something cheap.  I made that mistake... thought about modifying it.. and realized that it would be cheaper to just buy a better one.  So i did.  I do not regret it either... what i do regret is rushing into airsoft and buying a cheapo.  I still got some kills with it, tho...
