Obviously. But why/how do the patterns they're looking at fit that bill?
Because they wanted a new easier to upkeep uniform, wash and wear basically, The uniforms they have now are pricey to keep up and not very functional. For instance, the 'dungaree' uniform has breast pockets that regs say you can't put anything in. The pants are like business slacks and just don't work well as a working uniform. That's why when they started the project they had five or six variations of the uniform. Everything from the same cut and pocket locations from the old BDUs, all the way up to the same features as the ACU. They're going to take the best features and come up with one standard uniform.
As far as the pattern, I think they want to stay inline with the rest of the services and go to a digital print. The digital print hides stains, dirt, and other blemishes real well compared to the present uniforms. The blue pattern adheres to the blue Navy tradition, and they don't need to worry about having a real tactical pattern.
And lastly, the uniform will replace at least three uniforms that I can think of for both officers and enlisted. It will remove the need for dungarees, winter working blues and summer working whites for enlisted, and khakis and both season working uniforms for officers. If they plan to get rid of uniform coveralls then add a fourth to that.
