question about 1911
« on: December 11, 2006, 03:29:13 PM »
I have a TM 1911a1, the slide has colt trade marks, but the lower reciever apears to have the spring feild armor symble on it with the two cannons and the circle. Is there any particular reason for this, I noticed it a while back, but i could not find out why.

That's not SA, that's the seal of the US Army Ordinance Corps.

It basically comes down to this.  From about two hundred years before 1968, the Springfield Armory was a major US weapon storehouse/arsenal.  In 1968, the DoD closed it and somebody bought the name, rights, etc and turned it into a company.  The Army Ordnance Corps symbol remained a part of the Springfield Armory emblem.

(I guess.)
