Groved Barrel
« on: June 26, 2007, 07:42:15 PM »
Are there any barrels you can buy that have groves in them? Like ones that make it so the BB doesn't move around. My friend told me they make them, and I looked on Google, and couldn't find any. So I'm wondering if they make them for airsoft.

I assume you are talking about fluting?

They tried that, but it didnt turn out as good as they hoped. A sphere dosent have a defined axis of rotation, so when it exits it can go any way it wants. Sacrificing the lift gained from hop-up for rotaional stability is a poor exchange on a sphere in airsoft.

Here is a test showcasing multiple barrels including the fluted tanio koba twist barrel:

Quote
In a nutshell: A tightbore inner barrel will increase accuracy over stock barrels. Heavier bbs will increase accuracy over lighter bbs. The TK Twist barrel has serious effective limits and should only be considered for low-powered (under 330 fps) AEGs. There seems to be a correlation between smaller bore diameter and increased accuracy.

It's rifling, and it's great underneath one joule, but since we shoot hotter than that, they're not a good idea.

well no. like vince said under 1.0j its very good. but twist barrels are very expensive and we do go over 1j. if you plan on doing cqb where you fire under 320 then this barrel would be good. check out twist barrel by tanio koba on google for more info. but after 1j the twisting effect is lost just fyi
