Clones?
« on: September 01, 2007, 09:05:26 AM »
Hey All!  I'm really not trying to be stupid but, What's a clone? I see in some of the threads that the word clone is used... Seeing how we are all using various copies of the "real deal", are "clones" a "copy" of a copy?  Just trying to clarify things....Thanks!

Clones are the Chinese copies of expensive guns. These copies try to mimic every part of the original so must to all upgrade parts will work.  The first versions suffer from the typical issues that most expensive companies have and some are better than the expensive versions.

Such as CYMA's Thompson which is off better quality than the TM version yet a 100% design clone.

However some guns are not clones. Such as the JLS Scar or F2000. They came out before the rest did.

A clone is a copy of another AEG company’s design, which was developed through their own research and development.

Most clones are cheaper because they don't have to spend the capital on R&D.   In the beginning all clones, copied TM versions.  Everything has some type of TM development in them.  Then over time some clone companies started to make their own improvements to the overall design. Gearbox wise, everything is basically a TM design.  What can vary is materials/parts used, gun take down, furniture and overall gun quality.

I have noticed that some clones have cheap or poorly made outter parts, which make the gun feel more fake than it all ready is. While others are made very well, but that is just me.

most clones from anyone other than echo 1 or JG all suck. and sometimes even they suck. its wiser to save up for a tm or ca or brand of the same status. they will last longer and take less replacing in the long run.

Ok here is my interpretation of clones...they are a great way to try out the game and see if it is for you. However they lack the long term durability/reliability of the higher end guns. They are also a good way to get a specific style of gun that you want but don't intend to play with much.

"most clones from anyone other than echo 1 or JG all suck"

That statement is TOTALLY incorrect, Echo 1 rebrands guns from all sorts of manufacturers (as stated in a previous thread). Echo 1 does not change the gun in any way, but rather merely repackages it and adds a 30 day warranty. So based on your statement, the ECHO 1 AK RIS is a high quality clone whereas the CYMA CM.028 is a horrible clone... EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE THE EXACT SAME GUN (with the exception of the RIS which is only found on some of the CYMA guns).

I would say that if you want a clone, Decide on what kind of gun you want, ie. M16, M14 AK47 ETC. then do some research to find out who makes that style of gun and the reputations of the various models. (The quality of clones can vary between two models by the same company)
