Radios...and what I need help with (Radio gurus wanted!)
« on: October 12, 2007, 09:33:42 AM »
Hey all,

I have been searching for a nice Peltor/Cavalry headset...but they all come with two-pins....I'm curious, since I know next to nothing about radios...I routinely use Motorola Talkabouts like just about everyone else.

Are there two-pin radios which can communicate WITH talkabouts?  I have been looking for over a week, and its confusing...if anyone could shed some light, or perhaps some nice tactical headsets which can actually work with just a talkabout?

This is the headset I'd really like to pick up...but not if I cant find a radio which could communicate with other players!

Please help!

Do a search on here for Red Dog Radios.  He sells Icom radios that a good portion of the people here use and they're programmed for FRS/GMRS.

Ah, okay...I saw his stuff listed, but then I saw it said "programmed for Airsoft Arizona channels" <--- what are your channels? Just standard 1-10, or 1-12 FMRS?

Are privacy codes possible? Its precisely what I'm looking for - just want to be sure I can chat with everyone I play with - going to OPBH...it'd be great to get these done!

Cheers!

Yes, they have privacy codes just like the small Motorola, etc radios.  My radios have like 22 channels plus sub channels though they might not have as many subchannels as some of the FRS/GMRS specific radios like the Motorola.  I have 2 of the motorola that have a boatload of subchannels that far exceed the Icom but what it provides is more than enough.

I recommend both Icom and Calvavy, for great performance.

But Calvavy comes only in Kenwood or Motorola pin formats, and will not work with Icoms out of the box. I have done several custom Calvavy to Icom conversions If you like this headset and want to upgrade to an Icom then, buy it and I can do the conversion, PM me for details when your ready.

To be correct the IComs don't have "subchannels" they have Tone and Squelch controls which is all the Motorola Talkabouts use, only they are called sub-channels or security codes on the talkabouts.  The only reason this is really relevant is you have a much wider range of programing options with the Icom or any UHF/VHF radios.
