Calling all AK47/74/SLR Folding stock users
« on: December 26, 2007, 09:18:19 PM »
Ok, I just picked up a CA SLR 105 Para from The Gearbox (great store, great service, couldn't ask from more, keep it up you guys!), and I happened to assume that my cousin's Elite and/or Intellect stick batteries would fit into the replica.  Well, I guess the cells are too large or something, because no matter how hard I try they won't seem to fit.  They are only 8.4v and 1400mAh/1500mAh.  I'm looking for something that will fit, and I'm assuming I'm going to have to look for even lower mAh batteries like 8.4v 1000/1100mAh batteries.  However, the only ones I can seem to find are the KANs which I've had very bad past experience with.

Can anybody point me in the direction of a higher quality brand stick battery that would fit a folding stock model such as this? :?

Thank you! :)

Without having seen your batteries, I can't be 100% sure, but I'm pretty certain you have batteries made of 2/3A sized cells.  Those are the correct size, and there really aren't any shorter, but what I have seen happen is that the wiring between the first cell and the connector on the battery is not long enough.

The connector on the gun needs to be plugged into the battery and then fed up into the area below the rear sight on the AK.  Sometimes the wiring on the battery or on the gun does not allow for this to happen.

A Batteries Plus location should be able to reconfigure your batteries as a tech build to have a longer amount of wiring between the battery and the connector.

I'm not sure, but Deans Plugs might also allieviate this problem because of their size.

Hope this helps.

Well, the way Classic Army decided to make their Paratrooper, they omitted a fuse and just use the mini plug that is directly attached to the gearbox.  From what I can tell, it's impossible for it sit back any farther than above the hop up as there is no way for me to put it under the foresight.

My main problem I'm having here is not a lack of wiring, but perhaps too much wiring. :?   Maybe I'll just have battery plus resolder it for me so the wiring is as short as possible...who knows?  Maybe they've seen customers with similar problems and could help me out?

Too long.  It might just only be the wiring, but it seems as if even if I eliminate the wiring being too long, I might still have a problem with the battery itself not fitting.

on the side of the sight in the back is a lever if you press that up the whole front of the gas tube should come off

It doesn't budge.  I think that portion is stationary on the CA models unless CA decided to make their's harder to move than the real AK which I highly doubt. :?

Yeah, I know what you're talking about, I've field stripped my grandpa's WASR-11 more times than I can count...

Anyway, it looks as if there are two bolts underneath the foresight that do not appear on the VFC.  I did read an off hand comment off of airsoft canada about some people having this trouble on their CA SLR folding stocks too.  Other than that, a short review off of some UK retailer's website from a customer mentions he had similar trouble and somehow was able to solve it by using a connector of some sort to make the battery fit somehow.  I'm sort of lost on what he's talking about though. :?

Maybe someone else can?

I really appreciate both you guys for trying to help me out here. ;)

However it has a problem, the battery connector lead is simply too short ,the battery itself lies under the receiver top cover and its snug to say the least and as the lead was too short its was impossible to close the cover due to the connector block being stood at up in the receiver, luckly I had a small extension cable which worked fine for the day but the wire will have to be extended for ease of use at a later date.

Some people are visual people, maybe you can take it down to the gearbox and they can show you what you need?  8)

Yeah, guess I'll take it to em' if I can't figure it out. ;)

P.S. Sorry about the double post earlier. :?

EDIT:  After many headaches and pushing the wires to their limits, I was finally able to fit an Intellect 8.4v 1400mAh battery into the SLR 105 Para!   :D

Thank you everyone who helped me out, it helped me realize in what exact arrangement the battery needed to be aligned while plugged in.
