BTW, very nice rifle.  Is the "flash hider" fake like on my M4?  Since it has the detachable mag, but no pistol grip, do you get to add one more "evil feature"?

The brake is fake, like yours, but I can have something else pinned in place later on.  I probably will.  Your points are largely correct, too, Jason.  The parts are "just different enough" to require the replacement of many other parts when I get to that...but none of it is necessary until a large number of rounds has ben fired.  Thousands by most counts.  It'll be a good long while before I can afford thousands of rounds of 7.62, so I'm good to go.  If both rifles (this and the SA) were sitting next to each other and the price difference wasn't $500, I'd have grabbed the SA, of course.  It just came down to what I was getting for the money, and this won easily.  I still have a good chunk to add to it from Fulton, but I have a working rifle in the meantime.  We MUST go out shooting soon, though!  I can't stand owning it and not using it!

Kyle, I'll be at Ben Avery this weekend (w/my wife, and possibly my sister who's come down from the "Y" for the week).

Actually you can just replace the fake flash hider with a new SA post ban flash hider.  It doesn't need to be pinned/welded/silver-soldered in place since the original wasn't either.  Just don't get one with a deadly bayonet lug and you're legal.

My FAL with custom painted stocks by Legs
« Reply #36 on: August 06, 2003, 10:59:38 PM »
Well we seem to be talking about real steel a lot lately so I'm throwing my hat into the ring.  Here's my FAL that I finally finished putting back together.  It started out as a Century Arms Import L1A1.  I striped the receiver of everything, bought an Imbel Metric parts kit off eBay and took everything to Arizona Expert Arms in Gilbert.  I had them install a US made muzzle brake, parkerize everything, reassmeble and head space it.  I installed a US made Hammer, Trigger, Sear, Pistol Grip, Gas Piston and Inch pattern folding charging handle for a total of 7 US made parts to make it compliant with ATF reg 922R.  Legs did his usual superb job of custom painting the stocks for me.  I finished it off with a TAPCO scope mount dust cover and an Aimpoint Comp M sight.
