First of all, welcome to the wonderful world of Airsoft.  You definitely came to the right place if paintball is not your cup of tea.

I suggest you come out to the next game and check it out.  There's usually one or two guns available to borrow as long as you're careful with them.  An AEG is the way to go for the way AA plays.  Trying to play with just a pistol is like going out with a pea shooter.  Would you go to war with just a pistol?  Ask yourself that.  If you say yes, then you probably won't like the way we play since we try to emulate what happens in the real world.  Kyle, time for you to step up on your soap box and say a couple words.

Thnx for the warm welcome [:)]  From my readings on AEG's effective range is about 100ft.  Pistols are like 60ft or less. I just want to see how the games go, but its hard to just watch you want to play[:P]  I guess what I need is to be able to play to see how the play is, I dont mind getting hit and I am a very patient person I believe.  You dont have to worry about a raving maniac. [}:)] lol

Only time I got mad was when I was hiking and some paintballers painted my truck when I was returning to my vehicle!!!!!!!!!   That torques me off, [:(!] I think it would anyone.

I think what Im asking is that I would like to play, or to be a target which ever prevails lol. To see if I feel that this is something worth to step up for some gear and an AEG. I want to make sure this is what I want before I put up the cash for it [;)]

You could do it with a pistol, but you'll be really outranged in firefights.  After you join AA, there is a rental AEG that will be available if you wanted to try one out without spending $300.

I think I may try getting in on some non AA games to get the feel for things, like how good of a target I can make[B)] haha.  Then I can know better on how I like it and what I would need for the real big games.  I feel that if I basically like paintball, then I will really like airsoft. [;)]

Airsoft is a whole 'nother animal!  I used to play paintball, now it sucks!  Airsoft is about tactics, teamwork, and looking good in the gear you have collected for the past few years (ok, that last one is all me).  It is superior in ever aspect.  Everything I liked about paintball is much better in airsoft (action, adrenaline, intensity).  Everything I love about airsoft is absent from paintball (teamwork, tactics, DISCIPLINE, the military simulation aspect, MATURITY, and did I say DISCIPLINE?).  You will love it!  I like it before I played by looking forward to the games.  After I actually DID play, I was hooked!  I have not missed a game since!

My GBB I forgot has the hop-up system. In my back yard with very light wind I could hit a cereal box about 65% of the time at 100ft. Now Granted I dont know first hand how the effective range is on an average AEG.  Ive read 100ft.  That may be wrong, correct me if it is.  I can just see my self running out of ammo real quick though in a fire fight.  Id have to pick my engagements carefully.  Hey or I could be used in a scenerio where Im a downed pilot that needs to be rescued from enemy territory.  Then a pistol would be appropriate for my load out lol. ;)

SO I understand that I can play with only a pistol but its highly recomended that I have an AEG becuase without one Im more of a target than a threat.  And that is a burden for my team.

Afirmative, unless you're planning to master the art of knife kills which would be better than going againts a sqaud of heavily armed men with a handgun.

Sorry for my late reply, but I am still reeling from the shock of you actually being over 18!!!  It's heartwarming to meet you for that reason alone, amigo.
You can play with a handgun and you can have fun, but you won't have as much fun and the odds are very good that you will be shot by opponents who are out of your effective range.  Your barrel is simply too short to compete with a rifle barrel for distance shots.  AEGs are the basic tool in this sport and you can be far more effective with one than without one.
Come out to a game and see what you think.  I'm actually glad to meet someone who won't jump into this blindly.  If you decide to stay after you check it out you'll likely be a better player because of it.
Welcome!

HI I have been aware of airsoft for about 7 months now.  I was wanting to get into paintball and wanted a cheap realistic backup pistol.  I came across airsoft and was impressed, even though I was dissapointed at first that shooting paint out of them was discouraged greatly.  But I bought one anyways when I found what I believe was a good deal and it looked cool to have.  I bought a KWC M92FS GBB for $60. Includind a 12 round mag.

I have never bought a paintball gun cause I wanted to find good people to play with, not those paintball jerks that we all love to hate.  But I never really found any that play on a regular basis.  So I decided after reading alot of forums here that most of you guys sound like the kind of players im looking for in a group.

I would like to Join AA but Im not sure that I can play with just my GBB M92, I dont have and wont get an AEG becuase Im cheap and dont want to spend alot of money if this is not the kind of play that Im looking for.  I have read in posts that yeah you can play with a pistol, just you will have to use more steal.  lol obviously you can volley off 20 rounds with a pistol like an AEG.

Then on the page for someone wanting to know about airsoft it says that you need an AEG to play.  So which one is it?

Gez I can write alot in a short amount of time [:I]
