Multi-Tools

So I've owned a few Leathermans in the past years, and they've been good, but recently i had a "wave" and i broke 3 of the bits. The flat head screw driver, the mini multi-bit driver, and the saw. Did i get a bad tool, or is the steel just weak?

Is something like a Gerber better steel-wise?

Gerber is a great knife company i personally have a leatherman from them or a "multi-tool" and i have had that thing for about 3 years now. I have took it camping everywhere. Its a great tool to have i highly recommend this company

I use my Leatherman Wave every day at work with no issues, I have had it for almost a year now. I have hade other leathermens in the past, allways a good tool.

Still have an original leatherman, went with me to Africa and back, still going strong. I don't agree with Tim Leatherman's politics and wouldn't buy another.

However I did see a really cool new tool at the CRKT booth at the shot show:

check into the s.o.g. tool, I have carried a leatherman for years, two sizes, and have twisted one slightly while prying some stuff up, and pinched myself bad with my first one, the newest one does not close up all the way like the very first version I had so it is okay but would not buy another one, this one I have now was a gift so I use it and consider special for personal reasons only, not the best tool, just the best one I own right now.....

Awesome tip on the SOG tools A-Dogg* (* :lol: just kidding). I think ill replace my busted Wave with a Sog.

I still have a Leatherman "Pulse" which i've had for 5 or 6 years, and i love it. I just didn't have good luck with the "Wave"

no prob.
Now I see why I like "this" multi tool I have: it was made by Gerber, I carry it all the time and never noticed it was better than the letherman it replace for a reason, so there is another one to look at, GERBER tool, the sog tool is sweet though.

I have Surge from Leatherman and I love it. Highly recommend if you are not scared by it's size & weight.

They make certain lethermans that are strong called the leatherman FUSE serious there more expensive but last over 4x as long.

I had a Leatherman WAVE, (an original Wave actually) for about 2.5 years before it was stolen from me on a hiking trip.  Never had an issue and it got rough housed.  I think you may have gotten one that barely passed inspection.  See if you cant get it replaced or buy another (not like they are terribly expensive).  I no longer carry a multitool with me, although sometimes I wish I did :)

I've used so many multitools for so many things in the past, that I can tell you to look at what you're going to be doing with it, what accessories do you need, how conveinent is it, and do you think it's cool.  These factors will allow you to choose a tool that is appropriate.  

I've broken gerbers and leathermans, and I've been amazed that both didn't break.
