That was an amazing story Morrison. Here is mine.

I come from a family where the last person to be in the military was my grandfather on my mothers side. He was in the army as a parachuter. About 12 years ago he died of Diabetes. I never really got to know him when I was growing up but after he died my grandma began to tell me stories of him while he was enlisted. This became my motivation to join the military. I had talked to the recruiters and the choice became clear. The Marine Corps. I was in boot for about 4 months, I had 1 month in MRP because I blacked out on a run, got the silver bullet, and they found out it wasnt from heat so I had to go to Balboa and get checked out. Well when I was getting checked out I basically lied to the doctor because I wanted to stay in no matter what. I finally graduated and moved onto SOI, got through that with minimal problems and then was deployed for a short stint.

I was doing a patrol when I blacked out again, this time for longer. 5 hours. They had checked me out and found out that I have a disease that basically makes the pressure in my head increase and that causes me to black out. I was discharged and came home, and all i heard from my family was " We told you so..."

This is why I do not feel like I cannot wear the EGA. I am beyond a "Broken Marine".

Yeah, MRP blows, I know the feeling.  Nothing like watching everyone you know get to fly home to their families since you can see the planes take off from the squadbay windows...

I tried the lying bit, but it didn't work for me.  I almost got office hours (possibly worse) for telling the Naval Captain @ Balboa that he could shove his 15% straight up his ass.  I apologized for losing my bearing, but he knew I meant it.  I guess he understood where I was coming from (that I hadn't come this far to just give up now), he was just following protocol and didn't press the issue.  So, I collected my things...blues, alphas, charlies, firewatch ribbon, rifle expert badge...and came back home.  The hardest part is telling your story to all the folks back home who originally rooted you on when you shipped out.  I was lucky in that I had a family that had BTDT; it would have been MUCH tougher to listen to the "I told you so's."

So, the choice is obviously yours to make on whether or not to wear the EGA, but don't ever let anyone tell you that you can't or don't deserve to.  Besides, you made it further than I did...

Honestly I cant remember the name they gave it. But I thank everyone who says I have earned it, it really means alot to hear it from you guys. Even if I dont know you, just knowing that someone out there knows it wasnt my fault. Kinda tough when your family never supported you in the first place.

Hopefully someday I can feel better about myself and wear the EGA again

See if you can find any info on what it is...Long-q-t can Kill you!!! It's like turning off a switch in your brain and MANY doctors misdiagnose it or just have no idea what it is. My wife’s family has a history of it. If that’s it ,there is a hospital in Rochester NY that does studies on it.

Also I was never in the Corps but I spent 9 in the guard as an MP...... If Uncle Sam gave it too you in the first place he isn't going to take it back (unless its a paycheck) Wear the EGA with pride. By ling you the medics and sticking it out to finish, you proved that you earned it!!!!!
