First Attempt at Multicam(R)
« on: August 01, 2008, 09:37:48 PM »
I have seen many people paint their guns in multicam.

This is my first attempt. Since this was only a study of multicam I have not completely matched the colors . First off I know that the green and the medium browns are a bit darker than suggested but I like the tones. But I would like to know what you think. I have placed it against various backgrounds and it seems to work. I will try to upload the pics with the guns in the background shortly but for know here is a pic of my 3 guns. Tell me what you thinks

If you would like to try it here is where I referenced my material.

Very good first try, I would agree that the green is a bit off but overall it looks like you did a very clean job, although I would suggest that you dont paint the grip, it will quickly wear off and look a little ugly.  My favorite is that sniper, its very clean and looks born to be multicamed. Very nice. I find the hardest part of doing multi-cam is getting that "watercolor" or "fade" effect.
If you want to lighten up the colors, I find a very light dusting with desert tan paint usually does the trick. Nice work though.

Next time you should just paint one gun, look at what you can improve, paint the second, see if there's more room for improvement, then paint the third instead of doing all of them at the same time with the same colors/technique. Good job on the first try though, thats better then I did on my first attempt.

Seconded/thirded or whatever that the green is far, far too dark.

Good first try though. Multicam is a dicey proposition because of how the colors fade into one another.

I've seen it done well maybe twice.

It's hard getting the correct green when most companies offer only 4 or 5 colors of flat camo paints. You should check out Aervoe paints, they offer a wide variety of green colors (4 of which we carry at the store) and go for $5 a can.
Note: Don't let the color on the cap/can fool you, the actual paint color is different. I would suggest #951 (light green) and #952 ("dark" green) would probably match up best to multi-cam. My $.02.

There are also a place in the Mesa area (I forget where, but will find out) who will mix up whatever color you want and put it in an aerosol can, but it's not cheap.  I want to say somewhere in the neighborhood of $75/can, but that might be off.

damn that pattern looks like a bitch to paint.
I think the guns look ok tho. all that matters is you've got some paint on them to break the outline up a little.
over time a lot of the paint is just gonna rub off or get scratched off anyways giving your rifles a nice used patina.

We stole the Eagle from the Air Force, the Anchor from the Navy, and the rope from the Army. On the 7th day, while God rested, we overran his perimeter and stole the Globe, and we\'ve been running the show ever since.
