Tokyo Marui MC 51
« on: March 11, 2009, 08:26:02 PM »
I was wondering how the TM MC51 is. I would like to know how it performs out of the box, if it sqeaks a lot, and things like that. I would mostly be using it for CQB but I want to know if it would perform well enough for medium-sized courses. I would like to hear from someone who owns the gun but I also want to hear from the rest of you guys.

Thank you

Though I have not owned one personally, my impression of the gun when I handled it was thus. The TM g3 series is old and disappointing externally. They are creaky and the colors that they used for the plastic bodies are not very nice looking. I make an assumption an the internals but if it is like every other TM it will be a smooth and well built but lightweight gearbox built for low FPS. Stock TM FPS is not very fun to play with against upgraded guns in AZ AOs.  I always advise against TMs because one will inevitably want to replace the plastic externals and the upgrade internally past what the TM gearbox can handle.

Just my take....

Like sten said, if you keep it stock you'll be outperformed by alot of other guns (upgraded and stock). And the G3 bodies do feel like a POS.

You dont have to drop tons of money on upgrading it. Every TM egarbox iv'e had has taken a Prometheous 110 spring without ANY other upgrades (except a decent re-shim job)! Iv'e even had it do fine with the plastic bushings which can last a lot longer than most people think. My buddies TM Aug went 2 years without him having to swap the plastic bushings and he had an upgraded spring in it.

I have 4 G3’s. I have 2 TM’s (SAS and SBD), 1 CA (M41) and a JG (G3A3 with real wood kit). I like all of them!!! The longer the barrel the more you have to worry about the “creaks”. The “family” can be seen here: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=7946&start=315
The pics of the A3 are on the next page.

I can’t say that I have ever really had issues with any of them. I got them all used and the gear boxes have been opened on all of them. Will they last as long after they have been opened………… Who knows?

I don’t think you would have any issues with the MC51. It would make a great CQB gun. I like the TM’s over my CA because of the “heft” of the CA metal body. BUT the CA is my main CQB gun due to the RIS. The nice thing about the G3 is the changeability of the “lower” body. If you can find another lower you can set one up for CQB and one for higher FPS outdoor games. You can change the unit over in about 2 minutes (if that long). I pull 1 pin separate the body and slide the new lower on. It’s a little more involves on guns wired to the front but not much. I like full stocks myself.

I haven’t been airsofting as long as many on the boards but the one thing I have learned, Buy what looks good to you and is in your price range. Do you want plastic or metal? You have options for each. If you get a decent AEG you can fix what breaks. There are many brands out there and somebody will have bad things to say about any of them. Everyone will have there favorite mfg’s and yes on some guns it might make a difference (IE harder to disassemble, bad wire routing, ect).

Good luck with your choice.

Marui MC51 is a GREAT gun. Take my word for it. Throw in an M100 spring, you're golden.

Everything sounds kinda dirty to you, Tyler.  :D  You forgot to include freaking awesome Batman "MAGIC" shim-job.  I captured some Marui magic pixie dust, and I sprinkle it in other guns.

There are plenty.  These are places I've personally ordered Marui's from before, and they stock them regularly:
