I have never, and will never recommend buying gear without trying it on... There is SO much personal preference involved here. Only you know what will work for you, but maybe I can help steer you in the right direction...

Is this your first foray into tactical gear?
If so,

How do you generally play? What guns do you carry with you? How many mags? How do you carry water? What other gear do you carry?

These are the kind of questions I would want answers to before I even tried to give you a recommendation...

I went through 3 or 4 vests until I settled on my current rig... and god knows how many times I reconfigured each rig.

For that reason, I do suggest you look at some of the modular gear. I understand you are on a budget, but you should be able to build a nice vest for not too much money...

kind of asking a wierd question.. you'd get too many diff opinions from everyone on here.

what you should do is plan everything out around what kind of kit you you want/need. and that can take a long time to get everything the way you want it.

what role? rifleman?saw gunner?grenadier?

are you a runner?

are you a packmule?

are you a team medic?

i run a full plate carrier because it gives me the option to do anything i want, yes it's heavier but i can put any pouch configuration i want on the vest, test it out and change it as many times as i want-

i tend to keep a lot of optional things for my vest and my gun > versatility is my main focus

Notice that the same philosophy on gear here nets 2 totally different approaches... I run a battle belt with not much more than mags, a dump pouch, a few extra bb's and an extra battery. Camelback for hydration. Super light and fast, and I never really feel like I am lacking anything.

Sounds like that's working for you.  Why bother with a new setup?

It does work great, I'm not looking at a new rig, just trying to help this kid figure out how to choose tac gear.

a vest will run a lil more money  but  if you are on a budget i would go with the chest rig. vests tend to move around less if you have them adjusted. chest rigs tend to carry less equipment and not have much or any molle straps. if you are looking for a lighter simpler load a chest rig. but vests can carry almost an infinite combination of setups if there are full Molle and you have the apropriate pouches. But on the other hand that gets expensive, but if you can afford it it will be more than worth it. on my team the only people who really have chest rigs are those who are rather small in stature or are our snipers.

I would go with a vest it looks better in my opinion than the chest rig.

using a belt works good for me, i dont carry much though just my rifle and sidearm, not a huge fan of stuff rattling around when your re-positioning

or when you roll sideways and have all your gear getting crushed/jabbing into your side/back lol




then again i usually dont wear much tactical gear at all.. no bdu's/acu's or anything i prefer mobility/comfort over cosmetics
