Dean - welcome to the site and to airsoft. This is a good read (a bit long, but well worth it) and should answer a number of questions you may have: http://www.airsoftarizona.com/newbie_st ... ie_faq.htm

Hope to see you at the next game!
So then i get to thinking about barrel lenght and accuracy. How do you guys feel the mp5's and such (P90 as well), work out while in an open arena rather than CQB? Are they adaquate for a first weapon? Or is it really a much better idea to get a longer barrel to start with?

Other than looking ridiculous in the field, the MP5 will do just fine. As far as the lead goes, the MP5 is great for door kickers, but not much else. Most of us try to emulate the correct weapons for what type of scenarios we will be underatking. More times than not, this means the good old M4, my personal favorite! Sure, alot of guys have them, but we have them for a reason. The M4 is at home in the field, in the house, and everywhere in between.

As for gear, I think you will find us a cut above the average BHI and cheap holsters. Everyone has their personal preferences, but most of us try to stick to something used by the real pros rather than some cheap knock-off LBV. Don't ask for opinions about gear, you will get too many. Buy what YOU like, since it will be carying YOUR ammo and hydro, not someone elses.

Welcome![8D]

Yea, the M4 is not a bad idea at all really.... thats understood. I read a bit of negative word here about the CA M4's, and that suposedly the newer runs of them have been much better in quality... is this true for the most part or are they still buggy?

As for gear.. yea, id love to be able to drop $200 on a tac-vest, but its just not going to happen at this point. Its not that i dont believe its worth it, its more that i just dont have the cash to drop all at once... ill have to put the money where i can right now. So i figure drop most cash on my arms, then let teh left over cash trickle down to gear and such, and then in time upgrade it. My job simply doesnt pay enough to fit the bill.

Welcome!

Just for advice, buy online.

Also, the ultimate thing in airsoft is what works for you and what you think looks good. So go for it!
The M4 is an excellent choice, and you can't go wrong with it.
I think the M733 is also a phenomenal gun for what you pay.

As for gear, keep an eye out! Guys around here buy way too much stuff, and we're always selling it. Also, watch for sales. Modular is a good way to go. You can go anywhere from just suspenders up to some ridiculous setup like some *cough*Matt*cough* have. Plus you can buy as you go.

Botach has a great deal on Blackhawk vests - and at $59, it's a GREAT deal no matter what some of these guys say. Go here and scroll down to see the deals and vests they have: http://www.airsoftarizona.com/forums/to ... IC_ID=2553

...keeping in mind that the realistic GEAR is the main thing that sets us apart from other pursuit games. Looking cool is one of the main draws of MilSim! If you just want to run around and shoot, there are other hobbies.

We like our gear, and we have alot! You don't need to spend alot. 200 bux? No way! Pick up a nice Eagle or BHI chest rig for 50-60 bux, a shemagh for 15, and a set pf BDU's for 40. A baseball cap on top, and some goggles and you are good to go, for around 100 bux TOTAL!

http://www.practicaltactical.net is one of our favorite sources of gear, with the best prices in AZ!
http://www.diamondbacktactical.com also has a nice selection, and is another AZ-based retailer.

Welcome to airsoft buddy, and trust me when it comes to gear take Azsarge's advice. I bought alot of stuff from practical tactical, good prices. For the rifle look at Zorks.com they will split it up into three different payments.

Yea, im gonna look more at the m4 i think... or some such. Again though, ive got to look into CA more too. I just really want that metal feel!

As for gear, i have NO problem dropping 50-60 on a vest.. it was some of the posts about vests for nearly $200 that threw me off. Yea, i expect to pay around 100-200 total for gear alone aand active duty that play on our down time. We are very active in airsoft and play valleywide. Our goal is to bring as much realism to the game as much as possible. We were created December 1st,2003. Again welcome to airsoft arizona.

A Noobs Hello!
« Reply #12 on: November 14, 2003, 09:18:19 PM »
Hey guys! New to the board, group, and Airsoft. Ive loved paintball for a long time, but honestly never knew about Airsoft til a coworker mentioned getting a gas pistol. He told me about the basics, and i did a bit of reasearch. Honestly i thought it was cool, but after seeing your site and the varrying matches i got REAL stoked about it all. I am very NON combat trained as it seems some of you may be very much trained, but thats cool by me. My buddy from work has some other friends who are ex-military and we are thiking of all getting into this very soon. i really dig the site, and you guys all seem to be damn friendly and fair.

Im currently researching my first gun, and gear, which i am planning on purchasing around christmas. Im getting hitched a week from this sunday, so my money is drained at the moment, but wont be next month.

I visit several gun boards.. namely ar15.com and fullauto.com on a regular basis. Some of the guys there have mentioned airsoft rifles in the past, but i never looked into it. I dig shooting and all things firearms. I just absolutely love the realisim of airsoft.

Cant wait to get out into the feild and meet some of you guys!

Thanks for the time!

Ruiner
