At a cross roads...Input
« on: March 29, 2010, 10:35:25 PM »
Well, being as I need a primary rifle again, I am really stuck here. I have a few options and wanted to get some opinions based off of actual experience..

The choices I am considering and the reasons why and why not are as follows:

1. KJW M4 GBBR
Why: GBBR realism, easy to upgrade/downgrade fps, never need batteries.
why not: Weather affecting fps and ROF, the mags are $40 each and are waffle style, thus not fitting in some pouches, initial cost, having to carry gas, Terrible reloading tool.

2. KWA SR10
Why: ROF and fps are great out of the box, 2gx gearbox and hopup are well known to be solid, price is attractive, mags are cheap
why not: It's an AEG, thus no realistic blow back, and requires batteries.

3. Systema PTW Gen III
why: Solid gun, easy cylinder swaps, great performer
why not: initial cost, cost of repair and parts, accessories.

4. G&G HBA EBR
why: Badass gun, long inner barrel, cnc'd out of 6061 so it's actually really light
why not: untested AEG, just came out, m14 mags are somewhat cumbersome.

I wouldn't even consider 1 (everything to do with the magazine is a failure) or 3 (everything to do with the electronics and the hopup is a failure) because both of their technologies have flaws in excess of their benefits (which are really just gimmicks over AEGs, more realistic, but they all still shoot the same lame 150 feet).

4 have non-standard magazines that would require all new gear and there are very few decent choices for .308 mag pouches. M14s are tapered so they go in and come out of pouches funny.

I would get a G&P M4 variant.

edit - I just saw that the #2 gun is an M4 of some sort. Get that, I guess.

Good food for thought. But the SR10 uses standard M4 style mags, however for some reason I guess some people have issues with CA and TM mags with the KWA bodies.

How are the G&P M4's with their 'bullshit airsoft tolerances'.I don't want to have to dick around when installing rail sets and the like. I have a real DD Omega 7in I'd like to use on whatever I get.

So what where does the price difference come from on a gun like this..

http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/pro ... =6&cat=273

And this...

http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/pro ... =6&cat=273

and this...

http://www.wgcshop.com/wgc2008/main/pro ... =6&cat=273

I know the last two have Red dot sights but that shouldn't add such a price difference..

I want to shoot right below 400. If I have to worry about CQB i'll just purchase another backup gun.

The second one, no idea.  The third is an MRP upper which everyone charges stupid amounts of money for.

Between the two, KWA gets my vote as well.

I actually like the cheapest one, the SENTRY the best... the MRP has removable but not flipping sights.. And I like the DD style rail system better.

@Vince, any idea what the ROF on the G&P m4's are like? One allure of the KWA's are the high ROF (25RPS)

If you want to adjust the volicity like the PTW you could go ICS. I like having the option to change in about a min and no electronic or motor issues.

But I am going to have to say the KJW GBBR. but im sure you already knew that.

Do what you feel is best for you. All weapon types have pros and cons. Spring, AEG, GBB, EBB, Etc.
I personally prefer gas guns. Yes the KJW mags are ugly and expensive, the loader sucks, and you have to pack a can of gas around. There are almost no aftermarket parts available yet. AEG front sets bolt on but outer barrels need to be modified. Some RS parts bolt up.
Regardless of a few challenges the realistic action and feel is amazing. I have already put close to 3000 bbs through mine and its just starting to loosen up.
An AEG will give you the option to increase/decrease ROF easily. Buttloads of optional parts and a much wider variety of weapon platforms. Batteries/chargers, electric motors, and whining gears are the downfall for me.

g&p's usually have a retarded rate of fire stock - the motors are pretty beefy. myself and 3 of my guys use g&p rifles and they all rip pretty good out of the box.

Well I am glad you said that. I ordered the VLTOR Sentry from Ehobbyasia, and had a 20% discount from them coming so it ended up being stupid cheap. What battery are you guys running? The two most common are the 7.4 and 11.1 buffer tube lipo's..

FWIW, this is the one I ended up picking up, as well as a PDI inner barrel, some optics, and a vast assortment of buckings.

PDI 375mm 6.01. I use bioval .27 BBBMAX's so the jamming is not an issue. The 110mm PDI 6.01 in my WE pistol can send out the Biovals to around 170ft.

I know the PDI is too long, but I am going to cut it down. When I say cut it down, I mean I am going to have it done in a clear environment where they modify turbine engine parts used in various helicopters. Not too fond of fucking up $120 barrels.

That, Or I may just toss a Surefire can over the end and call it a day.
