KWA
« on: May 05, 2010, 09:14:18 PM »
So my KWA SR5 broke a while back. I open up the gearbox to find a cracked piston. No problem, I bought a new piston and installed it. I close up the gearbox and pull the trigger. It shot, but the piston was moving back about 3/4inch outside the cylinder. Something inside the gb was also making a grinding sound. The air nozzle was also not moving back right. So I go to mechbox.com and try to see how to time the gears correct and the placement of the anti reversal latch. I fixed those two problems, pull the trigger and the same thing persists. I start to figure it may not be shimmed correctly, because i just bought new gears. I shim the gears a little, then my gb didnt close. So i remove the shims and it still wont close. Can somebody tell me what I may be doing wrong? How does the anti reversal latch go into place? Somebody please help!

Still sounds like the gear timing to me with your piston issue, not sure though. mechbox.com has a perfectly good explanation on the anti reversal latch a timing from what I remember but Ganef's thread that was linked above is how I learned how to do that right.

as for closing the shell, a small precision screw driver or a pick will help line up the gears and anti-reversal latch into their respective holes in the shell, also make sure the piston is in the guide rails and the spring guide is seated properly while closing. other problems you may have closing it could be the trigger. you kinda have to feel where its getting stuck and see what is holding it up.

Closing these things can be a pain sometimes. I agree with RB. I personally think that a scribe set is an essential part of any tool kit. The most troubling thing for me isn't getting all the gears line up on their bearing/bushing holes, it's that damn trigger. Another thing to look out for is the wires, especially to a rear wired gearbox. They run right behind the anit-reverse latch and can throw it out of whack. Keep us posted.
