M16a4 Barrel
« on: October 11, 2010, 04:00:46 PM »
Ok, whenever I attach my Special Forces three point sling to my E1 M16a4, the outer barrel seems to come loose and eventually detaches from the rest of the gun. I've tried to tighten the screws on the barrel, but it seems to do nothing to stop it from moving again. Is there a good way of fixing this problem, and is it common with other guns? Thanks for the help.

Obvious fix:  Don't attach the sling?

But since you posted this I am guessing you want to keep the sling on

Well, I tried a two point instead, and I really didn't like it that much when I used it. Also, the barrel seems to do that with almost any sling I use with it, so I just want to fix it anyway.

It sounds like either you aren't tightening down the delta ring on the gun enough or your receiver threads are stripped.

If it is the Stag arms version, yes it is a common problem. The replica is made by JG and rebranded bt E1. The JG has several barrel wobble and stability issues. I have seen it alot on guns brought in to the shop when I worked at precision airsoft.

First pull off the front forgrip atatchments.

Then grab your front sight and very slowly and firmly twist the front sight very slightly and dont force it.
Outcome A: the barrel rocks inside the set screw housing when twisted.
If this happens your in luck. locate barrel where it is as strait as possible using the front sight as your level gauge.Flip the AEG over and loosen ONE of the set screws compleatly, apply blue lock tight and tighten until firm.
Repeat with other set screw.
Do not tighten large set screw on top! it is not threaded well and will defenatly strip.
After that it will handle your sling just fine.

Outcome B:Nothing happens, in that case your delta ring is loose. On the JG the only way to tighten it is by using the forgrip retainer as your wrench.
remove forgrip grab retainer ring and firmly hand tighten.

Hope it helps.

Well, I tried tightening the delta ring nut, and now the barrel is working great! Thanks you guys for your help, I really wouldn't have known to check there with out your advice. I should now be able to use that sling without any problems.

If the problem persists, pick up a one piece barrel like this one.

That won't help with the delta ring not staying on.
