When did I say you were going to Africa? I said any 3rd world place outside of the US, Mexico in particular since you were hinting at Central America having plenty of AKs to have parts compatibility with.
I lived in Kenya and Ethiopia for 2 years and most of the police and private security companies in Nairobi were running G3s and Fals, and from working with guys from Zimbabwe and South Africa I suspect there are plenty of them there as well. I didn't say there were more of them than AKs in all of Africa but I was making the point that there are plenty of other rifles that the world nations have adopted to choose from. And besides, quantity is not always a mark of quality, nor is government adoption, or third world usage. I can guarantee there are more machetes(and deaths from them) in Africa than AKs, but that doesn't mean I am putting down my AR/AK/FAL for a sharp panga.
Neither are all AKs the same if you want to get all nitty gritty. Is yours a Russian izmash, saiga, Romanian, Yugo, Czech, Egyptian, US reciever? which one? nodak, arsenal, OOW... milled, stamped? 7.62 or 5.45x39mm
I have a 1986 Romanian G parts kit on a NDS-3 receiver with Tapco 922r compliance parts shooting 7.62x39mm, it is nice, I like it. But it is not the only gun I own that I like or would depend on in a crisis.
There are some really crappy AKs out there and some really nice ARs, and vice versa. There are US made, gas piston rifles that are excellent, and there are some soviet block stuff that is phenomenal.
I still really want an RPD, PKM and a MAG58
Accuracy at range will always be a decisive factor in combat even in urban terrain, but this kind of talk is out of my and your lane.
